OK, picture the scene..... I'm off work today. I've just finished washing the kitchen floor (glamorous, I know) and just thought I'd watch a bit of brain dead telly whilst waiting for it to dry. I realise I've left Planet Rock playing on the telly in the kitchen, so go in to turn it down, when this comes one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSoEP1NVmPMWell, all I can say is - if I still smoked I'd be having a cigarette right now.

Cool......I have just found out me and bessie mate have got the same for this years Bulldog Bash, a friend of my bessie mates is playing there.... BONUS!!!! www.bulldogbash.eu/Looks like we are doing Cropredy too - a couple of the lads live on boats so we are going to go down on the canal and moor up next to the festival ground...... Supergrass and The Levellers, as well as Fairport Convention, who could ask for more.... I heard a rumour that Supergrass and Biffy Clyro are playing at Wembley at the Foo's - I hope so, Supergrass are a brilliant live band, I have seen them a few times over the years on the Festival circuit.......

"This is the year where hope fails you The test subjects run the experiment And the bastard you know is the hero you hate But cohesion, it's possible if we try There's no reason, there's no lesson, no time like the present Tell me right now, what have you got to lose? What have you got to lose, except your soul? Who's with us?" The drought is ovah! The 'Knot is bringing Disturbed, Mastodon, the mighty Dragonforce and 9 other hardcore metal bands to Fresno on July 15. Sevendust was originally planned but dropped out. fuck. Still, 13 bands for one ticket sounds good to me most any day of the week. Still, it could be better....

Fuck, Disturbed AND Slipknot on one bill? That's going to be an insane gig. I wish I could go. I've seen Slipknot twice and they blew me away both times. Awesome band. On a vastly different note, I did actually go and see (gulp) Avril Lavigne at the weekend with my little brother-in-law. Honestly, it was like queuing up for a ride in a theme park waiting in that line. Hordes of FAMILIES. Kids. Little girls. Urrrgh. Which, when you think the first song she sings has the words "hell yeah I'm the motherfucking Princess" in the third or fourth line, is pretty funny. So, admittedly - she wasn't bad. Absolutely mouth-watering to look at (we were quite close to the front) and you know, the songs are what they are. I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy myself 'cos I did. And, more importantly, my little brother-in-law and his friend loved it. And Avril was Led Zepplin, Prince, Nirvana and Iggy Pop compared to her support act. THIS support act.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUQfOQh5WXwI felt like I'd been raped after watching them. You remember those bands that are in episodes of American sitcoms where there's a prom and a band is playing? THIS was the band. We're talking hand claps. We're talking devil signs(!!), we're talking waving arms. We're talking slinging your guitar around your neck. We're talking two guitarists playing back-to-back guitar solo's. And yes, we're talking sliding along the floor on your knees. It was HORRIFIC. Another Amazon review? You betcha.

Sorry, I only got to the 2nd line of that song. It's your own fault for going. And there is nothing wrong with Dio, The Who, At The Drive-In, or Dragonforce, all of whom indulge in some or all of the stage activities you described. Except the hand-claps, that's just corny. Avril Lavigne is a rock atrocity. An atrocity I would never kick out of bed, but one I would raise a pimp hand to with a quickness if she tried that punk rock wannabe bullshit in my house.
The "Mayhem Tour" I'm attending is like the next best thing to Ozzfest. And since I'm enforcing a permanent Ozzy/Sharon embargo in my house, this hits the spot.

I think the sound engineer probably felt the same way you do. In between the Jonas Brothers and Avril, the songs blasting from the speakers were the Ramones, the Foo Fighters and Green Day. I think someone was trying to make a point. Needless to say, it made my day.

I went to a Mindless Self Indulgence concert earlier tonight. It was in one of those smaller joints which are basically like two-story bars, as opposed to something like a stadium. I think these kinds of venues are leagues better than open arenas for experiencing concerts, because all the sound is contained within and the crowd is that much more crowded together. The music was good (I'm not much of an MSI fan but they put on one hell of a show), and the crowd was totally into it, which is integral to the experience. The opening bands - Julien K and Birthday Massacre - were even better than MSI, music-wise, especially the latter. The last gig I'd been to was Prayer Before Gunfight (for like the sixth time) at my college a few months ago. I'd since gone far too long without a solid evening of moshing and headbanging to some kickass live metal, and this more than hit the spot.

Yeah I've been in a few of those kinds of places that you're talking about, Benjamin. Those kinds of places are far superior than open air stadiums.
It makes sense; the sound can bounce off the walls - it doesn't have anywhere to go in an open-air gig. Man, I fucking HATE open air gigs. Especially as it usually rains over here.
Never heard of that band, Benjamin. What they like?
