Hands up if you've done this before; you walk over to your CD cabinet (or whatever you keep them in), looking for something to listen to.. and you can't find a single album you actually want to hear.
Not that I'm saying everything I've ever bought I never want to listen to again, but there is a fair number of records I know I'll probably never play again. Not that I don't like them as such, just that I can't imagine ever having the urge to put them on again.
Take The Pixies, for example. Now, I would go on record saying I love the Pixies. Seen them twice, got all the albums (including B-sides and radio sessions), yet, thanks to my wife playing them every fucking day for what seemed like about two years, I really do think I will never put another Pixies disc inside my player again. The same story can be said for White Stripes' "Elephant" - a good record. A great record, all being said, but one that, thanks to the missus, I will never play again.
There's also a host of various Britpop era bands that, while good and enjoyable at the time, certainly don't have anything that I want to "re-discover" any time soon. The likes of Catatonia and Reef are perfect examples. And I don't have a lot of hip-hop albums, but the ones I do (Wu-Tang Clan's "Forever", Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle", Q-Tip's "Amplified") won't be losing their inch of dust this century.
But that's just me. And maybe it IS just me. Does anyone else have any perfectly good albums that will never see the light of day again?

Man, I LOVE Crystal Ball! I don't have the 5 disc version (I bought Kamasutra by itself) but the mainly acoustic "Truth" album is a dream. Disc three has a fair amount of fillers (Pussy Control remixes? Um.. thanks..) but there's some awesome stuff on that boxset. And you don't have the Black Album yet? Oh, Wolfman, what AM I going to do with you?

AC/DC's Highway to Hell is the one that came to my mind right away. I must have listened to that, and ONLY that, for about 4 weeks when I first heard it. Another one I won't be listening to any time soon is the Exodus album Bonded By Blood, even though it's arguably the most classic of all thrash classics. Again, I played the hell out of it right after I bought it.

Nah, I always try to pace myself when I get a new CD so that I can still enjoy it years later. That said, I so often find myself looking for music I haven't heard yet that I neglect my collection. I mean to listen to all my CD's, but I just can't find the time. Thank God for my iPod's shuffle feature.

I have the same bad habit as your missis TC, I buy a CD i like and either play it to death or i will have bought it for one or 2 tracks only and never play the rest of the CD........ at the moment i am playing Scouting For Girls every day at least twice, I heard it for the 1st time in Spain with my best mate a couple of weeks ago, and its the "anthem" for this year...... a few years ago it was Pulse by Floyd (the only cassette we had taken with us but about 30 CD's) and the hire care only had a CD player mind you we STILL take it now for when we take a drive up in the mountains, it creates the right ambience!!! and who was it who mentioned AC/DC, another excellent band...... Oooo this is turning into a right old trip down memory lane for me, Hells Bells by AC/DC one of my favourites, I was 16/17 again for a nano second! I spotted some posts about Metallica earlier, I cant believe I have only recently appreciated them....it takes me a while sometimes, I have a lot of blonde moments for someone with purple hair I have still got 3 boxes of CD's that I havent unpacked since moving here in feb last year, I just dont know where to put them all, i have my late partners collection as well as my own now, mind you there are lots of duplicates in there...... I think there is more than 1 that I will probably never play again, but one that does spring to mind is Space, I loved Female of the Species yet havent played it for nearly 10 years i bet.... I have to admit im a bit anal about my CD collection, its not quite in alphabetical more by genre and decade if im honest......and I hate it when people dont put them back in their cases

Mark my words, your Scouting For Girls album WILL be the new "Female of the Species" - a few months later and it'll lie untouched until the sun burns out.
God I hate that band!

I bought Mr Pending the Scouting for Girls album and we both regret it. Every track sounds the same. If ever there was an album NOT to buy based on a single, it's that one.
I rarely listen to music any more (since I got Sky+ ;D), except when I'm in the car on my own for any great length of time. But when I do it's usually compilations or old stuff. Every now and again, when I remember, I try and replace my old vinyls with the equivalent CD so I can NOT play them too.
I keep them all in a pink and white vinyl beach bag, which I plonk on the front seat. I am currently umming and ahhing about buying the Foo Fighters' current album, so I can not listen to that too.

Don't you think the Foo Fighters have just become kinda... pedestrian now?
I mean, they used to be an essential band for me. I used to buy all the albums and all the singles (B-sides were a must) but that was a long time ago. The last album I bought was One By One when I realised I didn't really give a damn about them anymore. I just don't really care what Dave Grohl has to say.
A good band, by all accounts, and certainly one of the better commercial stadium rock bands out there nowadays, but not rocking my boat anymore.

Nah, im a complete Foo's groupie...... I loved Nirvana and I love the Foo's, I admit I prefer the earlier albums.....there are certain bands i never "give up on" others include Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Hawkwind, Primal Scream and Frank Zappa.....
I still listen to Dark Side of the Moon at least once a month and probably have done since i was about 13, I still have my original album on vinyl......

Have you heard the Foo Fighter's B-side "Color and the Shape" (which was left off the album of the same name). It's 4 minutes of ear-shredding magic.

The Foo's rock. The best thing that ever happened to Dave (or Kurt's) career was Cobain's death. Yeah, I went there. Nirvana would be a relic from last decade like Pearl Jam and Helmet and we'd have no Foo Fighters if Courtney hadn't offed him. I'm not even saying she had him murdered so she could cash in on his instant legend status and release his private journals in a vile act of financial necrophilia, I'm just saying if she didn't had him killed she drove him to suicide.

When I read this post it put me in mind of something Simon Amstell said on Never Mind the Buzzcocks......fortunately there is a clip on You Tube..... Just in case you dont know what im on about, Never Mind The Buzzcocks is a music quiz/comedy show here in the UK if you see it on cable in the US give it a go!!! Here is the clip..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXOu4ePnMM8
