I swear to God, one day I'm going to document my entire life on the internet. A site where I can keep an obsessively detailed list of all my DVDs? Got it. A site where I can keep an obsessively detailed list of all my CDs? Got that too. Pretty soon its going to be a site where I can keep an obsessively detailed list of every breakfast cereal I've ever eaten. For now though, the new obsession is - Songkick.com Let me explain; it has a database of countless live gigs, ones that are still to happen (where you can buy tickets) and others that have happened, where you can either simply click "I Was There", adding to your own portfolio of live acts you've seen, or you can add the setlist (if you have it), add live photos (if you took them) or any other notes, add-ons etc. Any small gig that no-one's put in there yet? Add it yourself. It really is VERY addictive, and it can also let you track who else is going to the same gigs that you are, in case you want to fuel any scary "soulmate" stalker fantasies. Meh - it's fun the first couple of times. So if you've got a spare hour, and you've kept all your old ticket stubs (surprise surprise, I have), you could take a trip down memory lane or even score some tickets for some future shows. Check the site out, and I'll give you a quick glimpse at mine to show you what it'll look like. It's a work in progress, of course (I only discovered this place on Wednesday). www.songkick.com/users/CurmudgeonReally though - how cool?

Very cool. An online database of every show you've ever been to is great. I may retire from concerts altogether for the time being after Alice Cooper's Halloween show next month. I am just enraged by the added fees. $40 a ticket, right? That's $80. Expensive as hell for the cheap seats. But then they added $30 in completely made-up bullshit charges including charging me (twice) to print up each ticket on my own fucking computer. That is over 30% of the cost in fees that serve no purpose but to pad the pockets of the people already making bank from selling the tickets. This is fucking madness and I'm not putting up with it any more. Not until I'm rich enough not to care.

Hey, I totally agree. They feed so much bullshit hidden fees onto gig tickets now its impossible to know how much you're paying on first inspection.
I'm going to see a friend's band support this singer/songwriter guy who won a TV talent show (don't worry, not THAT TV talent show.. this one actually made you sing, play and write your own stuff). The tickets were £10 each, one for me, one for Mrs C. And how much to print the tickets and post them out?
50 pence. That's, like, I dunno, 80 cents? It barely covered the cost of postage.
Now, that proves to me that it CAN be done. Gig tickets printed and delivered to your door for less than the price of a bar of chocolate. The gig's sold out, the venue will turn over a nice profit - everyone wins.
So how the FUCK can the likes of Ticketmaster get away with basically charging whatever the hell they want in horseshit admin costs?

Pearl Jam actually took this issue on by touring only in non-Ticketmaster venues for a while. Sadly, they caved after a while. Those bastards have a monopoly on large venues so if you're a big band you really have little choice but to play ball. Why antitrust laws haven't stricken these fuckers down is beyond me.
Bands like Fugazi have proven that you can have decent success and make a tidy profit putting out your own music on your own terms while avoiding all the trappings of corporate music and charging only $5 a ticket with no merchandising at all. But most bands just don't have the will or integrity to bother.

Cool site. I went to see Reverend Horton Heat last week, who were opening up for Motorhead. Tickets were only 10 bucks. It ended up costing me almost $20! Buncha crap. Still a cheap show, but I felt completely ripped off.

Motorhead and the Rev? That is a killer show. Just be happy it wasn't over $100. If Coop doesn't bring some serious heat, I'm going to be pissed.
