Sound the trumpets and let the 7 chains o' gold rattle 'round the sign 'o' the times 'cuz PRINCE finally makes his debut at The Fortress on my ongoing quest for musical days. Prince has been a busy, busy, busy man since prior to his FOR YOU album was released. He's created so much material that he actually went about creating other groups and giving out songs written under pseudonyms to other artists. From his 1986 album he released KISS, which he originally thought too strange and it languished on the shelves until he gave it to Mazarati. Upon hearing the stipped down version, Prince asked for the song back and laid down his vocals on it.

Interestingly enough, his line telling a woman to "act her age, Mamma...not your shoe size" proves to succeed outside the US despite the fact that many other countries use a ladies shoe size measurement that is significantly larger than the shoe sizes for the ladies in the USA. Only the line " You don't have to watch DYNASTY" has proven to not age so well as the show is long off the air. When Prince performs KISS live, he has since used SEX & THE CITY as well as DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES as a substitute to keep up with the times. So...rejoice in the musical harmony!

In 1986, The Bangles released MANIC MONDAY, which was written by Prince (under the pseudonym "Christopher)
He gave it to them as he'd become quite interested in Susanna Hoffs. Going by his suggestions, they focused mainly on her. It proved to be a big hit, and forever changed the balance of the group as media attention was largely towards Susanna.
By 1989 when they released their biggest hit ETERNAL FLAME, there was so much focus on Susanna that the group finally disbanded in 1990. Blame Prince...I know I don't.

So there is another man out there who enjoys "Eternal Flame". I had no idea Prince wrote "Manic Monday". That guy is so flexible as a songwriter it's ridiculous.

Yeah, Manic Monday and Nothing Compares 2 U are two of the biggest, "wow, that's a Prince song?" entries in the various artists category. That and two of Martika's biggest hits, Love Thy Will be Done and Martika's Kitchen. But, er, no-one really remembers them.

Love, love, LOVE Eternal Flame. Heartfelt, emotional, moving.. everything this number one cover by atrocious girl band Atomic Kitten aren't. If you manage more than 30 seconds without wanting to smash something, you win a prize.

That was one soulless piece of shit cover. I couldn't help but notice "The Tide is High" on the related videos tab. Holy goddamn FUCK that was bad. So do all those bitches do is make terrible versions of really good old songs?

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Tide is High. I think that was actually even worse - and that was a number one hit too. Fear for this country, won't you?

They didn't all do covers, though, but it certainly seemed that way. Their cover of "Ladies Night" sounds like the sort of thing you'd hear in an elevator.

I did try and right their collective wrongs through Amazon, though..
