www.scifijapan.com/articles/2007/08/07/the-long-evolution-of-godzilla-3-d/It appears that a remake of "Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster(aka Hedorah)" is upon us. Sounds like a fantastic idea since the original is pretty lame and the big G's track record has been nigh-impeccable since "Godzilla 2000". But then I get to the part in the article where the idea of repeating this bit of kaiju infamy is suggested. youtube.com/watch?v=7Kv-k8WvQOE Ummm, can we get someone else on this one, please? If I want Godzilla as a comedian there is no shortage of bad 70's films I can watch. Give me badass, devastate the Japanese Defense Force, stop stomping tokyo just long enough to roast some evil punkass supermonsters, and then dive into the sea to find some more asses to kick Godzilla and cut the superhero crap, huh? If he's to come back after that helluva sendoff in "Final Wars" it better not be as a marketing ploy for kids.

Any new Godzilla films are A-OK in my opinion. A remake of the Smog Monster is a good idea; it IS a film that would benefit from a more intelligent script and better effects, and it's even more relevant today, although Godzilla vs The Carbon Footprint Monster doesn't have much of a ring to it. As for the "flying" - I always wondered - how does Godzilla see where he's going? And how about bringing THIS move back? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yr26p3hIgm4&mode=related&search=Ha ha - or perhaps not. You know, as crap as it is, I LOVE Godzilla vs Megalon, especially this scene. From Godzilla's cute, lumpy face and his "lemme at 'im!" gestures, the whole WWE Tag Team action and the fucking AWFUL music. As sad as it seems, I may well have watched the Megalon film more than any other Godzilla film.

Yeah, "Godzilla vs. Megalon" is one whacked-out POS that you've gotta love. I've probably spent more time in my childhood laughing at that one scene then at every comedy of the last ten years combined. But Jet Jaguar has got to be the lamest tag partner ever; bring back Rodan for the remake of that one.

I always get a laugh out of the scientists explanation over Jet Jaguar (who began life in the movie as a child's toy robot) magically growing to the same size as Godzilla. "Oh, he must have taught himself how to do that." Wow - that's one smart kid's toy. Beats the hell out of a Wii, that one.

As for the "flying" - I always wondered - how does Godzilla see where he's going? He doesn't care! It's not as if anything he bangs into is going to stop him! Also, am I the only one who watched that YouTube clip a few times? Toodles!

Here's something I found while enjoying a nostalgia trip on the only DVD edition out for "Godzilla vs Megalon", the MST3K one. The most hilarious theme song ever, translated by our friends at "Mystery Science Theater 3000" for the English-speaking audiences of the world! Sing along: "Jet Jaggaaaaaar! Jet Jaggaaar!" youtube.com/watch?v=7cxV8Bf8ND4

There's a nice DVD of Godzilla vs. Megalon out in Australia. It features the original Japanese version completely uncut (the American edit hacked out bits with human violence and shots of nudie pinups in the cab of the truck), as well as the English-dubbed, edited American version reconstructed from the widescreen print. The picture quality is pretty damn good too; pretty soft on the colors, but still the best this movie has ever looked on any home video format. www.madman.com.au/actions/catalogue.do?releaseId=6604&method=viewIf you plan on buying that, use www.xe.com to convert the currency amounts as you need to. Also bear in mind that the DVD is Region 4 and PAL coded. As for Godzilla 3-D, if Banno ever does manage to get that project off the ground, it should be crazy fun.

Well, welcome to The Fortress, Benjamin. And an excellent first post, too - a link to Godzilla vs Megalon for $14, which is about £8 in earth money - a genuine steal, especially for the uncut version (nude pictures in taxi's? In a GODZILLA film?!)
Oh, you're going to fit in well here....!

Thanks for the welcome, man. I've enjoyed your Amazon entertainment for some time now but I didn't realize this place existed until just yesterday. nude pictures in taxi's? In a GODZILLA film?! It's nothing really explicit, just a few pinups of some topless Japanese ladies torn out from magazines and pasted up in the cab of the truck behind the drivers when that bearded Seatopian guy is holding them at gunpoint with the large crate in the back of the truck with the inventor and the kid tied up inside it. Nudity (aside from genitalia) is hardly considered taboo in Japanese media, even in kids movies, but the American distributors hacked out any and all shots featuring the pinups in that scene. If that scene ever felt a little choppy to you, that's why.

Yeah, I think a few jump-cut scenes were the least of that movie's problems.
And that's why I LOVE it.
You know, your comment of "I just discovered it existed today" makes me sad. I appreciate that 99% of people will come here from there, but besides putting the address at the top of my name and putting it in my description as well, it's still not really "out" there for people to see. Hence you're the first new visitor in.. well, a fairly long time.
But hey, let's not be negative. The Fortress has a new member - and he's a Godzilla nut! Awesome!

Actually, I'd say that's a good thing. Small, tight-knit forum communities are the best kind. I'm a member of a few other message boards and even though they're bustling, they always get their share of idiots and spammers on at least a weekly basis. This place seems cool because of its literal "fortress of solitude" status, not in spite of it.

I've got a region free DVD player, so Australian DVD's are welcome in my home. It's funny that Japanese folks (and others) regard Americans as sexually repressed: they're the ones who censor their porn! Don't buy the bullshit we get from politicians and the mainstream media, America is the farthest place in the world from sexual repression. Just don't tell the morons who mangle foreign films that.
