So the countdown to the new year is going down as we speak, and it's time to pay tribute to the best and the worst. Like every year, FOX News was renewed the worst thing ever and delivered the year's stupidest quotes, but who deserves exaltation?
Here's a hint.
The battleground: The internet.
he keyword: Operation Darknet.
An internet war against child pornography by hacker vigilantes Anonymous.
Here's the blow-by-blow.

While the attack only lasted a couple of weeks before Anonymous turned their attention elsewhere -specifically to legislation making it's way through Congress that threatens to make criminals out of all of us by making all sharing of copyrighted material online (including youtube videos and images as we often do here) a huge offense and another bill that would give the government the right to treat us as "enemy combatants" whenever they feel like it (think about the implications of that for a sec)- I think it's pretty awesome that a group that's been painted as terrorists made life miserable for a large ring of vile pedophiles and denied many of them their online anonymity.
Unfortunately, the government refused to move on any of the information provided and admonished the "vigilantes" for "disrupting ongoing investigations". Funny, Anonymous also claimed that the Tor Project was being used by largely by the wealthy and powerful to access kiddie porn. Pretty sure that explains why law enforcement has gone on record as being against Operation Darknet. After all the only "investigation" necessary is monitoring a suspects online activity, and then checking their hard drive. This is not tracking down Colombian drug lords. This is making life miserable for people who THREATEN OUR FUCKING CHILDREN with their very existence. You find one of these fuckers, you pick them up before they pick one of our children up, ya dig? Plain. Simple. If these people know they are being monitored and will be picked up, they will think twice about logging in and the kiddie porn ring shrinks. Instead, our government would rather crack down on real menaces like Youtube clips being posted using shows, movies, and songs not owned by the poster. My tax dollars at work. Good job.
So while Operation Darknet was only a brief flash in the pan in the war on kiddie porn due to law enforcement's lack of giving a fuck, Anonymous declaring war on one of the biggest purveyors of child pornography was still one of my favorite moments of the year. Anyone else got a badass moment of 2011 to share?
