There's nothing more frustrating than using Wi-Fi on your phone abroad, being able to check e-mails and Facebook and stuff, and then seeing the entire internet explode over one hot new "thing." That thing being "Kony", a word that was all over Facebook for about three days straight, all linking to the same video that I couldn't watch.
So I had no idea - none - what "Kony 2012" was, only being told it was, like, sooo worthy and important and stuff. So I was initially expecting some lightweight piece of self-important fluff. Yeah.. not quite.
Children being taken from their homes and forced into becoming soldiers is a pretty common occurrence in war-torn countries (well, if Hollywood is to be believed, that is). So I was a little bit perplexed on a few things; the way the video goes on is that Joseph Kony is the only guy doing this sort of barbaric, evil shit and also - why the FUCK haven't they caught this bastard yet? It's a sad state of affairs that a Youtube video may be what actually gets this guy arrested.
Anyway, that's my been travelling for 12 hours, can't sleep but still tired brain has come up with on this one. What's your take on it?

I was actually not aware of this (current events tend to piss me off so I generally avoid them until they find me), but I am very much liking the political power of the internet to bypass the mainstream media and inform the otherwise ignorant. Liking it very much, in fact. It is not any kind of secret that Uganda and other African nations are fraught with genocidal warlords that our government simply does not give a shit about. In fact, most of those fuckers are carrying our weapons...

Well, if it all seemed a bit TOO positive and forward thinking, thank Charlie Brooker for breaking down the video and what it actually stands for. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpuB11d0Gog"The Fourth Estate?" Christ, we're all doomed.

112 MILLION views? Holy shit am I out of the loop. God, Brooker is funny. This whole Kony thing reminds me of the Zeitgeist phenomenon. A lot of important information given by complete fucktards with some bizarre agenda and mixed with enough complete nonsense to discredit everything they are trying to accomplish. Hopefully someday people will get this whole "media" thing right.

I jumped on the bandwagon blinded by trying to save the world and now feel used and abused... "Apparently" these fuckers spend most of their money on non charitable things 0.o. But there you go. Im a better person though right?

A friend of mine actually emailed me about this a day or two ago (possibly to poke me with a stick knowing I'm always crusading from behind my keyboard) with some pretty funny memes. The internet wins again. While I'm a guy who likes to point out how fucking pampered we are and how out governments fucking the third world for profit is how we got that way, I find it hard to get behind any of these groups that are supposedly trying to help. Honestly, I do not trust them, and shit like this is why. The only real way to make a difference is to get off of your ass and go over there and help those people yourself, and I simply do not have the means to make that happen. What pisses me off is the things I could try and get done if I had the kind of money that s many Americans have, but who spend it on the kind of bullshit you see on MTV Cribs, then they turn around and ask us to donate or try and say me buying an xbox is the same when they spend enough on shoes in a given year to build a motherfucking school. Or the fact that our country is arming both sides of genocidal conflicts across the globe. You think Africa has the means to mass-produce AK's? Sheee-it. The question behind all of this bitching is "what can we do?" and the answer appears to be fucking nothing because the ones with the power are the ones with the money, and the way they get that money is through exploitation, which is not a business model that inspires much empathy. But awareness of the situation is a good start, so at least Kony 2012 gave some people a little bit of that. Now, if they could learn to follow through and educate themselves a little better, maybe some good could really start to happen.

This is probably the one (and sigh, only) time the mainstream public have sat up and thought "huh? Worthy cause? I can help? How?" and then finds out its some scam from some religious nut with an agenda. I imagine it will be around 2032 before people get involved with something like this again.
I heard about this guy having a breakdown (I heard he was caught masturbating in public.. that's got to be some kind of Chinese whispers.. right?)
Hmmm. A religious figure AND mentally unstable? Get out of town.
