Wow, now here's a goddamn interview! Grant Morrison is one of the most revered and highbrow mainstream comic writers out there and is knownn for writing one of Superman's most legendary and definitive stories (All-Star Superman) and one of the best Batman graphic novels of all time (Arkham Asylum). Reading his script for Arkham Asylum, you see how fucking insane this guy is (for example, he originally envisioned Joker's mouth to be drawn as "vagina dentata") and how brilliant he is at the same time, working on several levels and tiny details that very few readers will spot or comprehend.
His standing with me has plummeted over the last decade due to the way he has handled The Dark Knight, pretty much making all of his stories unnecessarily convoluted messes full of confusing insanity with too little of what the character has always been about present. While under Morrison's pen Bats has died (but not really) twice, found out his father is alive (not really, but possibly) and a villain (but not really, but maybe really), become "Batman of Zue-en-Arrh" after having his mind wiped or something, had Dick Grayson take over the identity with Bruce Wayne's dickish son Damien as Robin when he died (but didn't really), formed Batman Inc. so that every continent has their own Batman, traveled through time and became a pirate among other ridiculous things, and a bunch of other shit I stopped following years ago. So when fans say Morrison ruined Batman, there is a lot of ammunition to back up their claims. Yet, still the insanity continues. Fuck you, DC.
Back to the point. The guy weighed in on The Big Three recently and among his observations are that Wonder Woman needs more bondage and lesbianism, Superman should be battling Congress while walking his dog through an asteroid belt, and, of course that Batman is just "a rich man who beats up poor people" and is "very, very gay". Not that I disagree with everything he has said, but I really do wonder what he's trying to accomplish here. I'd guess he's sick of writing Bats and is hoping DC reassigns him after readers start to wonder if the guy who has been putting words in Batman's mouth for the last decade is the right guy for the job given his point of view. My opinion: let him write Wonder Woman! Full interview below.
