So I don't know if you've been paying attention to this, but I've found yet another reason to toss a bucket WTF in this comic company's direction. You may or may not have heard all of the rumbling about DC re-introducing a "major" established character as gay, supposedly in response to the positive press Obama gleaned for becoming the first admitted pro-gay president, or (more likely) to steal Marvel's thunder over the wedding of longtime gay hero Northstar. So message boards and comments sections exploded with speculation. Seeing that DC already has had some well-received lesbians on the scene (Batwoman, Scandal Savage, Knockout, and Renee Montoya), it was assumed this one would be a dude. Is it Jason Todd? Guy Gardner? Billy Batson (!)? Somebody we all know and love? Nope. www.toplessrobot.com/2012/06/dc_has_given_alan_scott_the_gay_but_hes_on_earth-2.phpAlan whonow? Also, he's alternate whatsisname and not even the "real" one? Gee, I'm sure the gay community is tripping all over themselves rushing to thank you for this incredibly bold move, DC. Christ, if they'd just done it and not made such a big fucking deal about it nobody would have complained, but after generating all that hype about it this just seems ridiculous.

Y'know, if I happened to be gay I would find all of this "LOOK! WE HAVE A REAL FAG IN OUR COMICS TOO! FIND OUT WHO IT IS SOON!" all a little bit crass and insulting. Wait, I'm NOT gay and I still find it all a little bit crass and insulting.
Marvel's approach has been a genuine storyline for a genuine character, not some thrown together "keep up with the Jones's" bullshit like this.
And yeah, he's not exactly iconic, is he? You make the Earth 1 Green Lantern gay? OK, a bit exploitative and knee-jerk reactionary, but fine. But to just tack it on to some guy no-one gives a shit about in an effort to steal headlines? Man, fuck this company.

I kind of wish that by some miracle Image Comics or some other indie company got ahold of the rights to some of these characters. Batman and Wonder Woman and the rest deserve better than to live in a universe dominated by these soulless corporate fucktards.
