Normally I don't bother you lot with anime news since I seem to be the only one interested, but I think this one is relevant to our interests as a whole. www.toplessrobot.com/2012/09/so_japan_is_making_a_fantasy_anime_about_the_old_n.phpAn animated series where classic Nintendo and Sega characters are made into badass fantasy warriors and kick each others' asses? Sign me up. The only problem is that it's so lopsided. They should throw in some Neo Geo and early Playstation characters to balance the scales a little because Sega doesn't have much that can stand up to the awesomeness of Samus Aran and Link. Thoughts?

Another thread that I had no idea existed until now. I really need to keep on top of this stuff more.
Anyway, yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of anime, largely because there's so fucking much of it out there and where do you even start? But this would certainly be of interest.
Be cool to see what they would do with some of the older console characters to re-introduce them as relevant figures. A 2012 Kid Chameleon? I'd be down.

I'd forgotten I'd even posted this. Yeah, the first 10 eps are online already so I'll have to give it a peak when I have the time. I read a few horrendously written reviews and got nothing of value except that apparently the anime has a ton of sexual content. Freakin' Japan and their sexual hang-ups. Still, the notion of seeing a anthropomorphic Pikachu molesting Samus Aran kind of makes me giggle. I'll post again after I've watched at least some of this and tell you what I think. If it isn't bad enough to be in danger of making you swear off anime for all time, I might post a link to it.

So anyways, the show had 10 eps listed on the anime site I watched it on, but only one is actually available at this time. Got to say: not impressed with this show so far. For one thing, it appears to take place entirely from the Sega/Segua point of view with Nintendo/Ninteldo being relegated to the antagonists, and there simply are not very many classic Sega characters worth rooting for. In fact, there is a character based on Tetris (who is a pervert obsessed with sexual euphemisms regarding "plugging holes") that works for Sega in spite of the fact that Tetris attained popularity as the flagship series for Nintendo's Game Boy. Vidya Fail. To boot, the Sega characters are uniformly uninteresting so far and the whole series reeks of anime cliches. I'll check back on it in a few months or so and see if it gets better, but the first episode of this thing was a bit of a bust. Also, Curmudgeon, not getting into anime because there is too much of it isn't really a good reason. Music, books, films, and everything else is the same way. You just find something you like and then take it from there. Anime is just slightly more challenging for adults because the mainstream examples are almost all stupid kiddie shows, but there is so much depth in the medium that puts most western entertainment to shame in the big picure.
