Well, how about that? No threads on wrestling in months and then two come along at once. This is more of a "who's in the wrong" question, though.
It concerns this man..
CM Punk, currently the no:1 bad guy on the show, and something that happened live on Monday night. Story goes Punk, being the evil coward that all wrestling bad guys are, jumps over the barrier and into the crowd to get away from a couple of good guys who were going to kick his ass (one of them being Ryback, the guy from my earlier thread).
Well, the crowd were WILD that night. They were going nuts over what had been a fucking great show, and so when Punk jumped into the crowd and ran up the stairs, things were now at fever pitch. So Punk is standing on the steps while Vince McMahon yells at him from the ring, when someone tries to shove Punk down the stairs. Twice. They then slap him in the back of the head and punch him in the kidney.
Punk slams his elbow in the guy's face and then turns and punches him, all on live TV. The footage isn't great but take a look..

When it first happened everyone assumed the WWE would be sued and Punk would be fired. But the wrestling biz as a whole always favours the wrestlers when fans get involved. You're there to boo and cheer, but you don't get physical with the guys, otherwise you will get hurt. That's always been an un-written rule.
So the WWE issued this statement.
“During Monday night’s Raw televised event, WWE Superstar CM Punk exited the ring and into the stands as part of the show. Unfortunately, WWE security was not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk’s persona as a ‘bad guy,’ fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him, and one struck him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers.”
“I think the whole situation sucks,” Punk told WWE.com. “It’s an unfortunate and isolated incident. I was up in the stands, surrounded.”
“Somebody said, ‘let’s push him down the stairs,’” Punk explained. “I got hit in the ribs three times. I was getting shoved and I was getting punched…Then I started getting tagged in the back of the head. Unfortunately, I lashed out in the heat of the moment and I apologize. I’m really just glad nobody was hurt."
And no charges were placed.
So what do YOU think? Should Punk, a grown man and legit Muay Thai expert, have shrugged off a few harmless taps from a wild crowd he was standing in? Or has he every right to defend himself from people trying to push him down stairs and punch him?
Aaaand GO.
