Can't even imagine how utterly Gash this film will be, also is it me or doesn't Lucas look like he has just sold his soul in the article pic? What a shit-eating grin!!

Dear. God. I think we all agreed that Lucas needed to pass this franchise along to somebody else, but Disney? FUCKING DISNEY!?!? As if the prequels and CG cartoon hadn't kidified the franchise beyond what it already was, now Disney owns it. Great. Now Mickey Mouse can rape our collective childhood (figuratively speaking, political correctness nazis). I think it's time to come to terms with the fact that sooner or later, Disney will own every entertainment property you have ever loved. Sleep well.

So Mrs C first broke this news to me (and indeed, the Fortress) and I let it sit with me for a few days before commenting on it.
So, charitable donations aside, this just can't be good news. Let's face it, nothing - not one fucking thing - of any cinematic merit has come from the Star Wars franchise in 30 years. Stew on that fact for a second.
People salivated over the third movie so much because they WANTED it to be great. It wasn't. It was decent, it was watchable, it was enjoyable. Did it come close to capturing the magic of the original trilogy? Not a chance. In fact, the only thing people remember is the "Nooooooooooo" wail from Vader, and even that's in a mocking sense. Add to that some worthless CGI movie that no-one cares about and you've got a franchise that, really, what else is there to do?
What's going to happen in part seven? A whole new bunch of people to have spurious ties to the original franchise? Jabba's son? Luke's brother? Fuck that shit.
You know what, Star Wars? Just GO AWAY.

Wow. Nice. It seems to me that the majority of people are superexcited about this transaction. I expected more reactions like yours, C, but it appears we are the lunatic fringe. People just want Star Wars to be back SO HARD that they will not let it go. There's a possibility that Disney could hire the right people for the job. I'll give the next movie a go assuming they don't hire on Michael Bay or somebody equally moronic to write or direct, but my expectations are not good.

Just had to share this. Terrifying.

Yeah, I saw that earlier today. Terrifying, but Selena Gomez as Leia would certainly help cushion the Disney blow. Especially in the Jabba slave girl costume... Sorry, I was miles away there. Back on topic, you know, it could be OK. Look what thinking outside the box did for the Batman and Spider-Man franchises. Imagine what someone like, say, Edgar Wright would do with the Star Wars franchise. Or, fuck, get this guy involved and take all my money. Imagine THAT.

Tarantino is my very favorite living director, but picturing him doing a Star Wars film seems almost like something of a parody. QT's hardcore, stylized, ultra-hip profanity and violence combo seems pretty antithetical to the Star Wars we know and love. However, I would be first in line to see it regardless. Wright's Star Wars would be something to see, though. He's got the right combo of creativity, visual chops, and humor to carry on the franchise in my opinion.
