That feel when "fans" of a series whine all over the web about spoilers for a story that is readily available for their consumption at any time: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1CLCOvZOh1o#! Seriously, can you be called a legit fan if you'd rather wait years and years (while paying some $20 a month) for HBO to get their shit together than crack open a goddamn book once in a while? And do you have the right to insist on limiting discussions on the series to just the stuff that has already aired? Thoughts? Feelings? Concerns?

Ha, well..THAT was great. "The book was better" is almost always the case, whether its a movie, TV show or even comic book. Not just because your imagination helps tell the story, but because the medium allows for way more character introspection, backstory etc. You get much more of a story with a book.
That being said, enjoying a book is such a personal thing, way more than anything else. If someone says "watch that film" or "listen to this album" then that's easy, that's something immediate you can sit down with for an hour. A book, though? And a whole series like Game of Thrones? That's another ask entirely.
I haven't read the Game of Thrones books, and fantasy isn't really my bag so I imagine I never would have heard of them until the TV show. But a big new TV show starring Sean Bean? Yeah, I'll give that a try. Likewise the True Blood and Dexter series. Love the shows, haven't read the books. The TV shows were there to be discovered, and if the shows are bad, you switch off after the first episode. How long does it take you to abandon a book you don't like? And how shitty do you feel?
So yeah, I WOULD be yelled at by that guy. But then I would yell back "no, I don't want to find out what happens in the books! That's why I don't go on any websites or read anything about the series, I enjoy the TV show and would rather not hear third hand spoilers from YOU, you self important obvious virgin. Shut the fuck up or talk about something else." Y'know, if that guy and the situation were real and everything.
I hate spoilers. Despise them. So I avoid the Internet or any discussion groups when it comes to things like Dexter, because I appreciate that, yeah, I'm late to the party and its already happened in printed form. Did you know, though, that the official Game of Thrones TV Facebook page automatically BANS people from discussing things about the books? Imagine that guy on there.

There's a site I frequent where the head guy reviews every episode of Game of Thrones. EVERY. SINGLE. EPISODE. And he posts all kinds of art and other stuff from around the web from the show as well. He's often whining about the comments section where people are naturally discussing the show and the books -as will happen when you gather together fans of a multimedia series- and it kind of pisses me off. Again, if you were such a massive fan, you'd read the fucking books. If you aren't a fan, why are you reviewing every single episode other than to drive traffic to your site? But the traffic you drive there is largely going to consist of fans of the show and many fans of the show are going to have read the books and want to discuss those as well. It's just dumb. I don't read the reviews any more because they are lame, but I'm considering dropping that vid in the comments if I catch him slipping again.
Facebook. Psssh. Like I'd ever go there intentionally, much less to discuss nerd matters. The can ban whatever and whoever they want. It's their own fault for being there in the first place. I hate spoilers as well, and that's why if I don't want to know, I don't ask or go looking for discussions on the internet where zero fucks are given. That guy I mentioned also asks people to speculate on what's going to happen next. How can you do that knowing that a good portion already know exactly what's going to happen and not expect spoilers? Christ.
