Double post! Man, 5 years of German and no fluency? Glad to know I'm not the only one whose brain refuses to acknowledge foreign languages on a conscious level. Well, to be fair, American education seems to be getting worse and worse. I should be fluent in Spanish and Japanese by now given my hobbies and location, but my brain just doesn't absorb and retain like it oughtta. Is it frustrating for you knowing that the knowledge is locked in there somewhere and your brain won't let you have it?

Gaaaaahhhhhrrrrgh! I blame the new Proboards layout for my double post. Fixed it now.
I could talk for hours about our education system and its failings since I'm in the education program at college, but I'll save that for another day. To answer your question, yeah it's somewhat frustrating... but considering our teacher taught the class as if us students were just there because we had to be and weren't actually interested in German at all, I'm just impressed I have the information in my head at all. Apparently I WAS paying attention in class. I bet if I were to really review all my stuff I could get back up to "tourist" speed in 2-3 weeks. But that'd be a lot of work, and since I know 0 Germans and don't have the money for a vacation, it's just not a priority.
