This one in the form of an open letter addressed to the world's Stupidest Popstar contender. www.craveonline.com/music/articles/581355-sinead-oconnor-pens-remarkable-open-letter-to-miley-cyrusNot too shabby, Irish. I think O'Connor might have been a bit redundant in reiterating the same points over and over, but she ain't foolin' either. Cyrus is already being chewed up and spat out and at this rate, she'll have nothing to show for it except a reputation as a stupid slut to show for it in a decade.

What a difference a few months can make. I remember, not too long ago, where Miley Cyrus was just sneaking past Britney Spears as my number one celebrity crush. Now she's inching to the first spot on the Worst Human Beings Alive list. This story has legs, as well. Sinead's pretty friendly, almost motherly advice to Cyrus resulted in Miley responding O'Connor's mental health issues. 'Cos bipolar disorder = LOL. news.sky.com/story/1150481/miley-cyrus-tweets-anger-sinead-oconnorWhat a charming piece of work. Then, seemingly without irony, Miley tweeted the lyrics to Sinead's (well, Prince's) "Nothing Compares 2 U". "I went to the doctor, guess what he told me, guess what he told me. He said girl you better try to have fun no matter what you do." She seemed to forget the next line of that song is "But he's a fool." And, y'know, Sinead didn't write the lyric in the first place. There are a lot of zingers Cyrus could've thrown at O'Connor if she really felt the need to; calling her irrelevant, that her greatest hits isn't even hers, that she's no stranger to provocative controversy herself (even if it was slightly more cutting and impactful than "get semi-naked and stick your tongue out at things") but trying to get a cheap laugh out of someone's bipolar disorder? Fuck her. The fact you call this "another Miley Cyrus thread" shows just what impact Cyrus has had on popular culture. But does weary eye-rolling and "check out what this stupid bitch is doing now" online word of mouth lead to record sales? Her initial shock value and buzz will die down, and then she'll have to rely on the music itself for people to actually spend money on. And that ain't gonna fucking happen any time soon, even if she says she wants this record to be this generation's "Thriller", a generation defining album that almost everyone owns. Yeah. Good luck with that, sweetheart.

I've never liked this girl. There's both prettier and more talented out there. O'Connor has obviously had her issues, but but she was at least sincere and didn't deliberately behave like a moron. She just came off that way sometimes. But she sure as hell never had to resort to using sex as a gimmick. Not saying you can't be sexy, but there's a point where "sexy" becomes "pathetic" when you have to try SOOOOOO HAAAAAARD to be SOOOOOOOO HOOOOOT that it becomes comedy.

Agreed. What's annoying was, judging by what I read about her SNL appearance (haven't seen it, granted) was that Miley Cyrus is now trying to act like she's IN on the joke, like her whole MTV performance was some arch, tongue in cheek display.
No it wasn't. It was a desperate cry for attention of a fucking shit song and you sucked. You're not in on the joke, you ARE the joke. And no amount of SNL performances with comedians who next week will be tearing you to shreds will ever make it different.
