You may remember a thread was started by someone calling themselves "RWE REW" (just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?) which was nothing more than a series of links to various dodgy sites. I edited out the links, of course, but "he" has actually been back about three times, giving out more of the same. Instead of editing them though, I just flat out deleted them.
It would be different if this RWE REW character was starting flame wars, throwing insults at The Curmudgeon or whatever - but this was just pointless, boring spam. Anyway, I googled "his" name and it turns out its not some Gwen Stefani fan out for justice after reading my "Hollaback Girl" review. It is, rather disappointingly, a spambot who has posted the same messages in hundreds of other (inferior) discussion boards.
The links are mainly porn links which (probably) infect your computer with God knows what. I don't want to take the risk of finding out and besides, even though The Fortress of Solitude is so good its worth cracking one out over, you don't want to do it that way.
The only way of stopping future threads by this spambot is by disabling the option that allows anyone and everyone to post threads and, sorry, they're not THAT much of a nusiance.
Especially when I can imagine that anyone who comes here more than once is net-smart enough not to go blindly onto any link which is nothing but gibberish.
So - take it as a warning. Leave the links well alone if you see them. and take it as gospel that they'll be deleted as soon as I see them.
Hate mail is one thing. Flamers and trolls are another. Spam and spam bots? They're absolutley nothing at all.
