If you've got an internet connection, you'll have seen or at least heard about Solange Knowles attacking Jay Z in an elevator. When it became viral it became something of a punchline for tedious web writers (I swear if I see one more article with the tagline "More fun than an elevator ride with Solange!" HA HA fucking HA) and TV shows. Like, LOL, see the big tough rapper getting punched and kicked by some stupid sister of the worlds biggest popstar. Begs the question, of course, that if Jay Z was the one doing the punching and kicking, no-one would be laughing (at least, not on any family friendly websites or TV shows). Jay Z's career would be OVER, while this looks like it could make Solange into a headline star. Look at the venom that piece of shit Chris Brown caused by punching Rihanna. So why is it funny when it happens the other way round? Check this video out, that shows exactly that happening. A guy hits a girl and everyone rushes to her defence. A woman hits a guy and people walk by actually laughing. metro.co.uk/2014/05/25/shocking-video-shows-how-the-public-reacts-or-doesnt-to-female-on-male-violence-4739801/OK, woman are traditionally smaller and weaker than men. I get that. So do we become punching bags because of that, and get looked at as being a pussy if you a) take it or b) a monster for hitting back. What do you think?

We actually had this discussion at my work recently and the way I look at it is this: men are built bigger, stronger, and tougher. We can take it. A woman who beats on a man is typically only hurting his feelings. But when a man beats a woman, he'll put her in the fucking hospital more than likely. If she was taking a bat to him rather than just weakly shoving him around, I'm sure somebody would have stepped in, but seeing a man behaving aggressively towards a woman and knowing it only takes one punch to break her jaw, folks will feel compelled to step in.
It is a double standard for sure, but I think it's justified. Like another coworker of mine once threw a fit because he says the media never reports when a chihuahua bites somebody, but every time a pit bull mauls somebody it's all over the place. It's the same deal. A chihuahua is about fucking harmless regardless of how pissed it is at you and pit bulls regularly kill people so there's your difference. Same thing with women and men, in my opinion. If a woman beat a man to the point where he looked like Rihanna did, it might be a different story.

I actually thought of this last night. Turns out I'm as guilty as accepting the female double standard as anyone. I was at a house party a few years ago and this couple were both drunk out of their minds. Near the end of the end of the night the woman is sitting with her head in her hands, asleep. Her husband goes to wake her and she slaps him, hard, right on the face. I did nothing. I actually laughed. Imagine that was the other way round.
