Rock, pop, acoustic folk, a capella.. what this list needs is a whole lotta SOUL. You can thank Price for this one. Because I'm nuts, I went through a phase of buying albums of artists even referenced by Prince in song. Didn't exactly hurt my record collection; it's not like Prince mentions Celine Dion or anything. So I was introduced to Sly and the Family Stone, Joni Mitchell, the Ohio Players, George Clinton.. no junk. Instead of a reference or clear inspiration from, this was a direct cover version, the very first cover Prince had released in over 20 odd years. A gooey cover of a band specialising in gooey love songs, it was pretty damn nice. That song was Betcha By Golly, Wow! But I'm not going to talk about that. Instead of talking about that one, I'm going to play a different single. A hit at the time, but this infectious, pretty damn lovely song is a sadly forgotten gem. Take a listen, and you just KNOW if you were playing this song back in the day you'd be getting some ACTION. (No video, I'm afraid. Use your imagination). www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjJzgqU5v4o

When the name of your band is the Stylistics, you'd better be classic as fuck. I don't know that I've ever heard this one, but it's about as classic-sounding as it gets. I'll give it a pass.
