when were you when 4cham dies?
I was sat at conputer red artikl
'4cham is kill'
'no'Here's a pretty good article explaining the imminent death of one of the defining websites of the internet community. Brought down by a blog started by a dude to get back at his cheating girlfriend. What a fucking world we live in. felixdicit.com/?p=1336I may never have been a true oldfag, but I always had a good time going to the internet zoo for a brand of insane hilarity that just could not be gotten anywhere else. I'll miss you, 4chan. Any other site just won't feel the same.

Woah, hold up, wait. This is actually happening? Shit.
When you read the history of the place you realise just how much internet junk culture that is now part of our everyday lexicon that started on that site.
I dipped my toe in those murky waters a couple of times, attempting to even try and get a sense of it all, but, perhaps ironically, the anonymous nature of the boards bugged the Hell out of me. So, like you, Trash, I was more of an admirer from afar than any kind of contributor.
So it's not technically dead, but it may as well be now, is that what the general consensus is? That came outta nowhere.

Have you heard of Gamergate? It's becoming one of the absolute premiere slices of widespread internet insanity ever, and it's responsible for this. But yeah, 4chan was pretty much designed to be inscrutable to newcomers, hence the "lurk moar" adage. They figure if you stop in, see all of the fucking insanity, and you like it enough to stick around and figure out what it's all about, you're in. Everyone else can go fuck themselves.
I haven't stopped by there recently. I know the site is still standing for now, but from what I hear the people who've been the lifeblood off the site are gone. There's been some changes the last couple years, like the 4chan pass where you can pay to bypass the captcha. I actually thought the ads and constant referencesto them were one of their jokes about 4chan selling out and going mainstream, but apparently they are a real thing. But when they started instituting strict censorship, pretty much everyone seems to have revolted and taken off to 8chan.
