So the other day I was in Hollywood and made my necessary pilgrimage to Amoeba Music to be utterly overwhelmed and spend stupid amounts of money. My plan was to beat this most incredible store by looking for an artist they don't carry. I've lost this game there and in their San Francisco store before. Many times. They have fucking everything. But last weekend, I won and it actually kind of made me sad. The band? More weird Japanese punk. What can I say, you can't really find good modern punk music in America anymore. These folks don't even have an English language Wikipedia page, but I love the way this song flows from smooth ska to raucous metal to melodic punk and back again. It's harder than you'd think to combine elements like these and have it not sound disconnected an shitty, but they managed and for that I must buy their shit. The funny thing is, I don't even know the genders of the singers. The singy one is clearly a woman, but while the screamer sounds incredibly masculine, he/she really looks female in the video, pigtails and everything. I can't even find the member's names online, so this is about as obscure as we can get without going down to the local bars to scout the talent. This is Missile Girl Scoot with "Big Mouth".

Hmm, this sounds pleasant enough. Can't think what's so punk about th
Head explodes.
Love it. I actually thought they were singing in English and I was trying to work out what they were saying. Duh.
You can't find these guys in stores anywhere? Man, what a crime.

The funny thing about Japanese punk is sometimes you can't tell what language they're singing in. When they sing in English it still sounds like Japanese and sometimes doesn't make much sense. I'll hit these guys up on Amazong for sure, but seeing that I have 10 albums I just bought it'll have to wait. Oh, this song and one other are available on the Suicidal Tendencies-fronted compilation "No Mercy, Fool: The Suicidal Family", which is where I found it. Lots of cool stuff on that.

I don't get to go to Amoeba very often and they've always got a ton of great stuff for cheap as hell so I've got to splurge like hell when I get there. I got a little of goddamn everything. Some John Lennon, Willie Nelson, Black Flag, Hot Water Music, Del the Funky Homosapien (3-album set), Dylan, Sleater Kinney, aaaaand....hmmmm, maybe it was only 9. That or my brain ran out of room and I can't goddamn remember the last one.
