MMA and the like are something I admire, but don't really watch. If it's on I could sit and watch it and enjoy it, but I don't follow it or anything. Basically, I know nothing. Some names and that's about it. But that's about to change, because this guy is joining the UFC in 2015. That would be WWE wrestler, sorry, FORMER WWE wrestler CM Punk. One of the legit greatest of all time, he called it a day with the company early this year and announced last week he would be fighting in UFC. Obvious comparisons to Brock Lesnar notwithstanding, it's an interesting time. People will, of course, dismiss him as some fake fighter about to be annihilated by genuine fighters, but this guy is the real deal. So have any UFC fans on here heard about this? Do you know who his opponent will be, and what he's like? Is the general consensus that he's going to get murdered out there?

I knew what this was about as soon as I saw the title. I'd have posted it earlier, but I've been off the internet a lot recently. The main problem is Punk's age. Usually, careers start to peter out at his age and he's just getting starting, which is an issue. He definitely wouldn't be getting anywhere near the UFC if he wasn't such a big name and a fan of the president. sports.yahoo.com/news/dana-white-explains-why-ufc-signed-cm-punk-182612328--mma.html Still, no reason not to give the guy a shot. He's always been a big MMA proponent and if he brings in some new fans to the sport, it's good for everyone...unless he gets his ass beat. Then it's bad for him. But I'm definitely interested since I think Punk is a great personality if nothing else. Even if he crashes and burns, I say give him a job as a commentator.

I'm in two minds. A) I, and plenty others, will watch to see what happens which is great for UFC. Probably be a great fight too.
But there's a big B. If he gets his old (well, in competitive fighting terms at least) ass handed to him on his first or second fight, The Best in the World (tm) could become a walking punchline and another insult in the arsenal of the dudebro's who think wrestling is "fake and gay."
Interesting times.
