The stigma of video games being the pursuit of lonely, basement dwelling spotty nerds is long gone. Games are multi-billion dollar empires and the only real medium that still holds value. But not ALL video games are cool.
I'm trying to phrase this correctly, because our British culture is obviously different to American culture. Dunno what you'd call them in America, but "lads" are guys who will have a console, probably an X Box, and will play a select few video games. You're not going to see them playing some in-depth fantasy adventure, but its socially acceptable, even cool, to play the following three games in particular.
Call of Duty GTA FIFA
FIFA. Fucking FIFA. Shit is like a religion over here, and it's a damn event when this game gets released every year. Those are, for want of a better term, "cool" games.
I am not a "cool" gamer by any stretch of the imagination. Last time I checked, playing Lego games, superhero games and WWE won't get anyone laid.
So how about you guys? Is there a such a thing as a "cool" gamer over there? And what games are considered cool?

Exact same shit here, but substitute Madden for FIFA. We call them "filthy casuals".

Even FIFA has gotten pretty big over here, but Madden is definitely the big one. Both are shit games, and I say that as someone who LIKES sports. I've never seen the appeal.
Other "cool" games in America? You could probably add Assassin's Creed to the list. I'm too far out of the gaming scene to think of any more off the top of my head.
