We've touched upon this before, what with censorship and free speech and all, but it has more than fired up again this week in the UK.
Part of me hates even writing about this person, because column inches, online controversy and gossip are exactly what Katie Hopkins is going for. I hate the fact I even know who she is.
So Katie Hopkins was a contestant on the Apprentice in 2007, and she was that years super bitch, the one that people loved to hate. So far, so reality show. But credit where it's due, Hopkins took her 15 minutes of fame and became the talking point of the country and headline fucking news, due to the fact she was, well, a bitch.
Her online comments via Twitter etc became NEWS. Her newspaper column became NEWS. All because she made nasty comments at pretty much every target; fat people, minorities, poor people.. you know the sort of thing.
But she appears to have finally taken a step too far, and the usual anti-Hopkins hate brigade has progressed to people in power actually sitting up and taking notice of what this woman is saying. Take a look here;

So as of writing today, a petition to have her sacked from the newspaper she writes for has hit 200,000 signatures. There's now an official police inquiry into both Hopkins and the editor of the newspaper who let the article go through as it's now being classed as hate speech with intent to provoke racial intolerance.
My point is - should this happen? Katie Hopkins is a vile piece of shit, desperate for outrage and scandal to keep her name afloat, but should she have a platform like this to say anything she likes? Or should free speech really mean freedom of speech?
