Hoo boy. What a depressing thread this is.
There was an interview a few months ago with Noel Gallagher, who always gives good quotable zingers. Arcade Fire had just released "Reflektor", their 2 Disc album. Gallagher hit out with this.
Anybody that comes back with a double album, to me, needs to pry themselves out of their own asshole. This is not the '70s, okay? Go and ask Billy Corgan about a double album. Who has the fucking time, in 2013, to sit through 45 minutes of a single album? How arrogant are these people to think that you've got an hour and a half to listen to a fucking record?"
Now, I like me some Noel Gallagher interviews, but I didn't agree with him at the time. I mean, fuck, what kind of statement is that to make? Should what makes an album, everything that goes on an album, be dictated by the attention span of modern music fans?
And yet.. shit, I kinda find myself agreeing with him.
I still buy loads of new music, but I'll be damned if I have the time to sit down and listen to it. I suppose it depends on your individual circumstances, and the days of sitting in your bedroom playing video games and listening to music are, sadly, long gone. Myself and Mrs C travel to work together, so listening to just my music isn't exactly on the cards, especially as she hates about 70% of the stuff I listen to.
So that's the problem. Listening to CD's now means actually going up the stairs, putting on an album and then busying myself upstairs while its on. All the while my brain is shouting "Netflix!" or "PS4!" or the million other distractions that exist now. In short, I just don't have time to listen to albums now.
Am I alone?
