Among the depressing, seemingly inevitable footage of fucking maniacs shooting people on a beach, there's the far more positive news that gay marriage is now legal in all states of America. Go you guys.

Not everyone's happy, of course. One guy I know (not even IN America) has doomed us all, saying it means the "end of procreation." I don't know how two other people being together means anyone else having less sex, but there you go.

That's just one idiot from the UK, though. Thankfully, there are more than enough American idiots that say even stupider things.

I'd like to say that's unusual in America, but for the most part, we really are that ignorant of what's going on anywhere that isn't 'Murica. I'm not sure how I feel about transitioning from being ashamed that marriage equality was still an issue to being ashamed that it took so long to happen when the arguments against it are so painfully pathetic.

I'm not sure which is funnier, the fact that a justice on the Supreme Court pretty much saying that the Supreme Court is bullshit anyways (sour grapes much?) or his angry critique of the writing style chosen by the opposition. Do you even ad hominem, bro? I live in a country where the highest court in the land is populated with people whose legal opinions read like posts from message board trolls. Do you have any idea how fucking depressing that is?

And then there's Clarence Thomas, who utilizes his blackness to the utmost to shoehorn his musings on slavery.

The corollary of that principle is that human dignity cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not lose their dignity (any more than they lost their humanity) because the government allowed them to be enslaved. Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity because the government confined them. And those denied governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity because the government denies them those benefits. The government cannot bestow dignity, and it cannot take it away.

The majority’s musings are thus deeply misguided, but at least those musings can have no effect on the dignity of the persons the majority demeans.
