To me, James Bond is a bit of a grind. The films are enjoyable enough (some of them, anyway) but the character himself is such an enormous fucking bore it's hard to care. I said it before, but the recent Mission Impossible films are absolutely more fun to watch.
Anyway, there's a new Bond movie out and now that Daniel Craig is beginning to look like an angry lizard in a tux, there's talk of who will replace him when the next movie comes out. And, inevitably, it always comes up - why can't Bond be black? It's an old argument, and I can certainly see it happening and ruffling the same feathers of the people who take this shit seriously. In this day and age there's no real reason WHY Bond can't be black, even if it would go against the character archetype set out in the original books. But, hey, if Nic Fury can be black, why not James?
A new argument has risen it's right-on head recently, and it's why can't Bond be gay? You know, even though he's spent 50 years fucking every piece of skirt on the planet, it totally means he's into guys as well. I mean, of course he is. Get the fuck out of here.
You want a gay spy? Write a movie about a gay spy. James Bond, whether he's white, black or fucking blue, is NOT a gay character. A cold, woman using killer? Yeah, OK. But he's heterosexual. Sorry to bust your bubble but he just IS.

I can already hear the cries of "bigot! Homophobe!" that would greet you if you were to express that opinion in a public setting. I've probably made it pretty clear over the years I don't have any tolerance for the kind of people who have such an irrational need to feel "included" and "valued" that they'd stoop to the level of harping on film studios to fundamentally change the nature of a 40+ year old internationally recognized fictional character, but then again I often feel like the only sane person in the room. Make Bond black, no big deal. He can still do all the Bond things. Who cares? But making Bond gay would be even worse than making him American. It changes the entire character, which pretty much steers us to the point you made- you want a gay spy? Create a new character who's a gay spy! Christ.

Funny thing about this: a girl on Tumblr was harassed into attempted suicide last week because she made Steven Universe fanart where a fat character was skinny and a "colored" character was white. STEVEN UNIVERSE! And these are the exact same people carrying on about making Spider-Man and Bond and Jon Stewart and everyone else black and gay and calling anyone who opposes bigots regardless of the rationality of their comments. Why shouldn't Bond be gay? The same reason Batman shouldn't turn into a giant green monster when you make him angry. It's simply not the same character.
