There's been some high profile celebrity deaths over the last few years, but this one, on a purely personal, selfish level, hurts the most. My love of Bowie is no news; I've got every album he's ever released and my favourite album of all time is a Bowie record ("Hunky Dory"). We all live, we all die, but I thought if anyone had found a way to cheat death and live forever it'd be the Thin White Duke. For as celebrated an icon as he is, Bowie never really adopted some hard, Do You Know Who I Am asshole persona. Yet for as pleasant a person he was in real life, he still carried that air of untouchable rock and roll God with him. Nice guy and everything, but it's David fucking Bowie we're talking about. I have not lived a day on this planet without Bowie being here, whether it's growing up with his music in the background or discovering him myself, Bowie has always been there. He completed his last album and released it two days before he died. I'm buying it tomorrow..the last studio album by David Bowie I'll ever buy. Quite a thought. There's a million articles all saying the same things, but David Bowie has died. What a horrible day. Thanks for the memories, David.

Can't stop hearing the gorgeous instrumentals from Absolute Beginners in my head right now. I just barely got over Lemmy and now we live on a Bowie-less planet as well. At this rate, Dylan will be gone next week. Why even continue living in this crap world? I never got a chance to see him and I've had his Five Years box set on Spotify all day. Just an amazing, once in a lifetime artist.
He really did. It's a sad day indeed.

Definitely. Although I prefer to believe this. news.bfnn.co.uk/bowie-returns-to-home-planet/I Googled that "Five Years" boxset you mentioned. I've got everything on it, but what a collection. The 2015 remasters would be interesting to hear. Interesting factoid - "Letters to Hermione" is Ricky Gervais' favourite ever Bowie song. Nice to see the rest of the UK shared my grief; 10 of his albums (including his new album being number one) are in the top 40. Good stuff in the charts, what is this madness? As you've got Spotify, some other Bowie I would seriously suggest investing some time in is "Diamond Dogs", which I don't think is on that boxset. It starts off with Bowie given a spoken word intro to some doomed future planet, and then kicks into Bowie shouting "this ain't rock n roll! This is GENOCIDE!" which is about the coolest fucking intro to any album ever. An album that doesn't get much attention is his early covers album, "Pin-Ups." I didn't know any of the songs to begin with, so they're just Bowie songs to me, and pure 70's glam rock perfection is the order of the day. You'll like those two a lot, I'd imagine.

Pin Ups is part of that Five Years set. Damn great set of covers. I knew maybe half and they were recognizable, but still very different from the originals in a good way. I spent a whole night at work (and then some) listening to that Box Set and told my coworkers I no longer knew how to listen to non-Bowie music.

It's such a massive shame. I'm still so sad he's dead.
