1. Morena Baccarin on the big screen again. 2. Gina Carano reenacting her fight with Cyborg Santos, but with Colossus. 3. Gina Carano kind of showing me her boobs. 4. It's a fucking Deadpool origin movie.. 5. ...and it doesn't suck.
What more could anybody ask for? Maybe you've always wanted to see a pegging scene in a mainstream comic book movie? It's still got you covered, my man. Near-universal acclaim, pretty much nailed the character, not afraid to be completely batshit, also not afraid to break the fourth wall to mock itself, and filled with sex, violence, and cursing. Oh, and somehow Blind Al actually made her way in. I had not expected that in a million years. And while it may be a comedy first and foremost, it doesn't forget to bring the darkness and tragedy of the character either. I'm so excited I've got the rest of a trilogy mapped out in my head. At this point, I'm willing to believe I can make anything happen just by willing it. Happy day, friends. Happy day.

I had suggested, for Valentine's Day and everything, that we go to a restaurant for dinner. Mrs C's reply? "Or we could go to McDonald's and then go see Deadpool." Who am I to argue with that?
Loved it, by the way. I don't have a huge, or indeed, any real knowledge of the comics so I didn't have any real connection to the character before coming in, but I sure did coming out.
I thought he might get annoying. That the constant nudge nudge gags might be grating. I love that I was wrong. What's rare is the villain in a superhero movie was actually a despicable shit I really wanted to see die. For its relatively meagre budget there was no shortage of eye-popping visuals, and it was nice to see a stripped back cast so we could really focus on the characters. When else is Collossus going to get so much screen time? And Morena Baccarin? The girl from V and Homeland was always attractive but in this? Mein gott.
You'll be pleased to hear they've already greenlit a sequel and the original cast, writers and directors are all involved.

Oh yeah, sixth dream: hearing a live audience audibly react to Morena Baccarin saying "a face I'd be happy to sit on". If I was in an anime, every man and at least half the women would have done this: I felt like the constant zaniness might get old too, but I was already crying with laughter by the end of the goddamn opening credits and I just about passed out laughing at the Ferris Bueller bit in the final post-credits and pretty much enjoyed every minute in between too. So many unexpected and ridiculous references. My hats off to the writers, big time. It's not easy to keep up a constant stream of shit talk without it wearing thin, but they did a decent job of matching the comics. Could have used a better soundtrack, though. The rap was overused. Wade is more of a rock fan. Could have gone a lot darker with the Blind Al thing (as it is in the comics, where Wade literally kidnapped her off the streets and keeps her prisoner and she does shit like replace all of his ammo with blanks before missions), but it would have eaten up a lot of screen time. They streamlined the origin a lot too. Francis/Ajax was more like a massive, sadistic orderly than a superpowered evil scientist in the comics and the scientist actually felt horrible about what he'd done and turned over a new leaf after leaving Weapon X so when 'Pool caught up with him for his revenge it would have been more like murder. One of the cool things about his stories is that it's hardly ever as straightforward as it was in the movie (although interrupting Collossus' speech was perfect). It's like he intends to do the right thing and then he gets put in a moral situation he has no capability of navigating. Forget Cable in the sequel. Leave that for X-Force. The next one needs Outlaw and Taskmaster. The villains have to be T-Ray (although they may have fucked up Wade's origin enough to make doing his arc a challenge) taking over the merc bar and Bullseye contracted to kill Vanessa. In the third one, shit has to get real and they really need to do the Dead Reckoning arc. It'll be glorious. Have DP appear to die gloriously and then do a stealth sequel in the form of an Agent X movie (he's a clone that was implied to be the missing amnesiatic Wade and turned out not to be when the real one came around). At that point, it'd be the best comic book movie franchise ever and I could die completely fulfilled.

One of my favourite lines was the "have you seen this man?" question about his cartoon stick-man drawing.
Yeah, I don't know much about Deadpool but the inclusion of Cable is a weird one. Do they have some big connection?

They had an ongoing team up series written by 'Pool's creator. It's arguably the best thing Deadpool has been involved with, actually. When I get some more Amazon gift cards, I'm totally going to buy the omnibus. But I think it's too soon to team them up in the movies unless it's in X-Force. That story in the comics was just too long and involved too much extraneous Marvel stuff (like the X-Men) to really do effectively and I'd like for them to get some more actual DP stories from the comics on the big screen in some form.
