As I said once before, I've started filling out surveys for some easy money, paid in Amazon vouchers, and I've managed to get an obscene amount of swag since doing it. About twenty odd albums, couple of PS4 games, books, DVD's.. and I just discovered I can trade them in for PSN credit. Sign me up for that.
So I decided on a little retro gaming session, and really the amount of games available to buy on the PSN is pretty impressive, and its like my own wasted childhood online. Toe Jam and Earl. Gunstar Heroes. Direct arcade ports of Final Fight!! So much goodness.
Oddly enough, though.. they're mostly only available on the PS3.
No great drama, though, because my PS3 is still hooked up to the TV waiting to be used, and if anything it's just helped breathe more life into the old girl, but it does seem an odd decision. They've got hundred of games, from Sega Megadrive to Playstation 1-3 to actual arcade games.. but you need the old console to play them on?
I had £20 worth of credit, and I bought Gunstar Heroes, Toe Jam and Earl 1&2, a weird PS1 platform/RPG called Tomba 2 that myself and Mrs C loved back in the day and the remastered 3D Jak and Daxter trilogy.. and all of these are only playable on the PS3.
PS4's retro indulgence seems to be revamping PS2 games right now, but that just doesn't compare with the amount of goodness available on their old console.
What gives?

I haven't touched my PS4 in weeks. I'm currently playing Final Fantasy V (a game I've awaited for over 20 years), before that it was Super Puzzle Fighter (picture competitive Tetris with Street Fighter characters) along with some Steam summer sale purchases, and I've got several more PS3 downloads lined up to boot. Okay, I did download a couple PS4 indie games on sale, but yeah the summer gaming doldrums are hitting hard since the recent big name games have faltered big time. PS3 is still arguably a better console choice if only for all of the wonderful old school games that haven't been ported to the new system yet. I guarantee Sony is working on some sort of service where they can consolidate their retro titles in one place rather than re-port them every generation, but for now PS3 is still a happenin' place to game.
