Mocking people's beliefs is a pretty dick-ish thing to do. You believe in God? Heaven? Hell? Unless you're doing shit to bother people, feel free. So this is..kind of an asshole thing to do, but thought I'd share this article about a guy joining an "Otherkin" Facebook group. It takes a bit of reading, but stick with it and remember two things; these are grown adults. This is not satire. ageofshitlords.com/infiltrated-otherkin-group-facebook/Now in a day where maniacs are blowing up abortion centres in the name of one religion and other maniacs are blowing themselves up in the name of another religion, this is about as harmless as "beliefs" get but fuuuuck. How did this shit even start?

In a word: furries. In a few more words, it's an obnoxious extension of the whole transgender movement and a way to appropriate an oppressed minority's struggles to get attention for themselves online. Or they could really be that weird or (and this is a longshot), it could be this is actually a thing. You never know, I guess. Then again, a single person identifying as a "siberian tiger, husky dog, and some kind of mermaid-like creature" or "cheetah, dingo, short tailed stingray, black tuxedo hairless cat, and spinosaurus" (would he still identify as that if he had never watched Jurassic Park 3?) is likely not experiencing any sort of legit species identification issues so much as schizophrenia. These people are clearly playing around.
I love the post declaring that "trolls are so bizarre" on a forum of people demanding to be taken seriously for role playing as nonhumans. I wish he'd included the troll posts in the article. The earnest ones just make me sad...

God, I nearly cried I laughed so hard when I saw the post that said "welcome my name is witchdragon." I figured that HAD to be one of the trolls, you know? But once I kept reading I realized I couldn't be sure. Christ.
The comments on the actual article aren't bad either. "I'm cancerkin after reading this." "Luckily I identify as chemotherapy so you're all gucci."
I've been aware of the otherkin thing for a while but never really looked into it. Like Trashcanman said, it's just kind of sad. THIS is how badly people crave attention now. God help us. And them, fuck.
To your point about being a dick for not respecting other people's beliefs, Curmudgeon, I agree to an extent, but everyone's gotta draw the line somewhere, right? These people don't ACTUALLY believe they're tigers and spinosaurs, and if they do then we're doing them a disservice by "accepting them for what they are" when we should be seeking therapy on their behalf. I don't know about you guys, but my line in the sand ain't anywhere near otherkin. It's at least few miles behind.
