Picture this scene;
Mrs C has played Lego Dimensions for 96 hours. 96 HOURS of bashing stuff to collect studs, collecting mini-kits and flying around on the Wicked Witch's broomstick completing race courses, all while putting those little Lego figures on the gamepad. 96 hours. One error message later and her file is now listed as "Corrupted Data." It's gone. Never happened, basically.
So a few frantic Google searches brought up a few key notes; this happens a lot, and the only backup you can probably get is through subscribing to PS+, that gives you 10GB of online storage for backing up your games in case this shit happens again. So there's another fucking expense because of this game, and you don't even get a toy with it.
What you do get, though, are free games every month, namely "Journey" and "Lords of the Fallen." I've not played them yet (has anyone here? Any verdict?) but it'll be interesting to see what comes up every month.
So, PS+. I don't play online so that's not a selling point, is it worth it?

Journey is an absolute fucking masterpiece and I pity any person who hasn't played it. Download that shit immediately. nickverboon.wordpress.com/2015/09/16/five-unforgettable-moments-from-my-journey-experience/Sorry, but Gamemoir has been down for a month or two so you'll have to bear with my shitty blog copy. No idea why the text is all bunched in the middle like that. LotF is a Dark Souls clone that I haven't played yet (protip: you can "purchase" the free games and then download them at a later time so if you don't feel like having it sit on your hard drive you can still get it for free while it's available), but I haven't heard good things. But yeah, that save thing is horrible. PlayStation has had so many more technical issues than Xbox. I almost never ran into any problems like this with Xbox consoles aside from the 360's infamous Red Ring of Death, but as soon as I bought a PS3 all of this weird bullshit started happening, and Sony just flat out ignores it. Never had my saves erased, though. That's the absolute worst. If anything in the world is going to make me quit playing a game I love, that's it. PS+ is absolutely worth it if you a) play multiplayer games, b) buy a lot of games on sale, or c) aren't picky about what you play. You'll likely recoup the cost of the investment in the PSN weekly sales since members get an extra chunk out of the games that are already discounted, if you take advantage. Also, the free games offered monthly are typically a $20 value, so if you enjoy even three of the 24 or so offered over a year, you've recouped the investment there as well. So if you're an avid gamer it's a great bargain. But if you only play a game or two a year and they aren't multiplayer, not so much.

Well, oddly when I Googled the problem I saw the same sort of comments as yours, that the Playstation is riddled with glitches like that, and the Lego games (Dimensions and the new Star Wars especially) are the only games I've ever played that I've ever had issues with. So Mrs C is now re-playing it, stony faced and silent, saving her progress on the back-up with every level.
As for the free games, I've not played any of them yet, but I did read that next month's games are a Transformers fighting game (can't remember the name) and the remastered Resident Evil Trilogy, which I was going to buy anyway. So I'm pretty pleased so far.

Trilogy? I thought it was just the remake of the first game? Still great, but the controls are awkward as hell by modern standards. If the Transformers one is multiplayer, maybe we can team up.

Just checked, you're right, it's the first game only. That was my major stumbling block with RE when it first came out, because the controls were a fucking nightmare. I can't believe they didn't fix that. Here's the trailer for the Transformers game. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCJJYMsgSskScrew Michael Bay's abomination, THAT is fucking Transformers right there. Looks like fun.
