So you'll have heard about Nintendo's new console, fresh from the disappointment of the Wii U (a promising and interesting console, but it just didn't have the games to make it a contender for PS4's crown). In case you haven't seen the actual ad for it yet, here it is. www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5uik5fgIaII mean, it looks.. good, right? But I suppose it's all down to how you play your games and what kind of games you play to how useful it's going to be. I have never, and likely will never, meet a bunch of people in a bar and bring a fucking games console in with me. And I sure as shit aren't going to sit and play a £400 console on a train. Using an iPhone is one thing, but everyone has one of those, sitting with one of these in your hands just has "MUG ME" written all over it. But again, that's maybe just me. I'm not a social gamer, I'm not a live gamer, so I'm not sure this has anything to make me jump to the front of the queue to buy one. It's interesting that there doesn't seem to be the multi-functionality of the PS4 (no Netflix or Blu-Rays or anything like that), that make the PS4 more of a one-stop entertainment hub than just a games console, so maybe Nintendo is going for a "this is purely a GAMES CONSOLE" approach. In today's world, is that enough anymore? Again, it all depends on the games. If they can get more third party developers in to make games other than the usual Nintendo stalwarts will really depend on it's success, in my opinion. And "A FUCKING POKEMON RPG" according to Mrs C. What do you think?

I'm sure it will have Netflix/Hulu/Spotify/etc functionality. Disc-based media is barely the present, much less the future of gaming so I don't think that'll be a problem. I think people who want a DS, the WiiU, and an iPad all rolled into one have found their winner. And good for them. Personally, I'm not going to spring for a system that is relying on a last-gen game to lead the charge along with Nintendo's usual batch of repackaged nostalgia bait, but I do think this is a wise move for the company and its fans.
