So we've had family comedies, we've had gangster movies, glam rock and sexy teen Drew Barrymore, what else could I possibly pull out of the bag for this week? Big movie stars, regardless of how many hit films they're in, are often name-checked with just a few movies. You read any newspaper article about, say, Tom Cruise, and it will be "the Mission Impossible star said", or "the Top Gun actor was.." Tom Hanks has Forrest Gump and, well, probably Apollo 13. You get the idea. So, Sylvester Stallone has Rocky and Rambo. But we're not going to talk about either of those. We're going to talk about one of his one-and-done movies, no sequel and no real lasting legacy either, but I've watched this one a bunch of times, when I was young it used to scare the shit out of me. It's Cobra. It's funny watching it back now and how admittedly hokey it all is, but back when I was a kid the gritty realism (ahem) really scared me. A guy pulling out a shotgun in a supermarket?? Holy shit that could actually happen. A cult of killers just picking off random people for no reason? Fuck, what would I do if that happened to me? www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoGoSu4NEyoYeah, it's hilariously dated now (ugh, his licence plate..) but this was the shit back in the day. Anyone seen this one?

I remember the adverts, but I was too young at the time for one of Stallone's bloodbaths. I never really felt the need to go back and find it after I became an adult either. Not that big of a Stallone fan.

Me neither, but this one's actually pretty decent if you take it for what it is.
I've always thought when it came to the "rivalry" between Arnie and Stallone, I think Stallone had more of a hands-on approach to his movies (wrote this and Rocky, probably more I don't know about), but Arnie had a better agent who just got him better films that turned into 80's popcorn classics. Predator, Running Man, Terminator..dude had 80's sci-fi sewed up.
