I don't know if anyone's heard (it was on the radio over here in the UK, something that would NEVER have happened before the Benoit incident), but TEN major stars of the WWE are suspended (probably, but hopefully not, fired) due to steroid use.
These aren't just your mid-card or lower card wrestlers - these are the guys 99% of the storylines are written around. The names aren't concrete yet (they're not being revealed until November 1st), but thanks to the net we all know that the likes of
Mr Kennedy (main event status) John Morrison (ECW CHAMP!) Chavo Guerrerro (upper card status) Randy Orton (main event status - in the biggest storyline in WWE right now) Edge (main event status) Umaga (main event status, intercontinental champ) William Regal - ("General Manager" of Raw) Funaki - well, OK - who gives a shit about him? Gregory Helms - ah, yeah - ditto. Charlie Hass - won't miss him.
OK, so the last three aren't exactly big business, but the other seven are major, MAJOR stars in WWE. Where Vince etc are going to go now, with storylines etc - is anyone's guess. One thing's for sure, Monday Night Raw, the first live show after all of this - will be verrrry interesting.
Man, 2007 has been one SHIT year for wrestling.

Look on the bright side. If pro wrestling can survive this, it can survive ANYTHING. It's been a shit year for professional sports all around: steroid use in baseball and the UFC, dogfighting in American football (seriously, the players are actually raising and betting on fighting dogs), basketball referees who gamble on the games they're officiating (who bets against them?!), David Beckham, it's a great time to not be a sports fan.

Ha ha, I like how Beckham is listed in the same sentence as dog fighting, fixing games and steroid abuse.
Is he a big deal over in America? "Posh and Becks" are like a magnet for unintelligent people over here.

It's actually a pretty funny situation. Now that those two are over here, the media is just beating us to death about it, but nobody really cares. Vickie even had her own reality special (nobody watched) and every single day on the sports page there is speculation of whether or not David will play (he's been hurt) in the next US soccer game. America hates that sport so much they won't even call it by it's proper name, football. Instead, they call a game where the ball is held in your hands "football", go figure. It's just physically impossible to get people here interested in over-the-hill Spice Girls and sports that other countries enjoy, but I am enjoying the press's desperation nontheless. Now that's entertainment!
