Fuck reviewing this, 'cuz I can sum it up quickly: This movie had NOT ONE DULL moment, and it is a redefining moment for Marvel who, until now, seemed to be heading down a slippery slope after sloppy thirds of SPIDER-MAN and X-MEN, not to mention the artsy misfire of Ang Lee's HULK. For the first time in YEARS I actually got my money's worth on this fine film. Count me in as a buyer soon as this hits DVD...and I'm not talking the bargain bin price it'll be a year from now, but the high end price once it hits the shelves on the official release date. All the other comic based films lined up will be having a tough time competing with this, and this is from someone who's been "batty" about THE DARK KNIGHT for quite some time now.... THOUGHTS?

I've avoided this thread for fear of there being spoilers (pfff, what was I thinking? As if Wolfman would have the bad etiquette to post unwarned spoilers).
Anyway, without any spoilers - anyone going to see this - STAY UNTIL THE END OF THE FILM. You won't be disappointed.
And now.. (SPOILER WARNING!!!!)
What a film. Scrap that - Holy FUCK what a film!
Downey was PERFECT as Stark, and he came across as charming, funny, cool and believable the whole way through it, and supporting cast like Bridges and Paltrow only added to the quality factor. The fight scenes were brilliant but didn't take over the film, leaving lots of room for character development. In short - it ruled and rocked.
Thoughts..
Why was Jarvis a computer though? We all know he's the Avengers butler, but he was just a computerised voice this time. Shame on that part.
Speaking of Avengers..
I trust you saw the REAL ending. I totally humiliated my wife by shouting "WOO-HOO!" and "Bitching!" when I saw it. So Samuel Jackson IS Nick Fury, then. So they're going with the Ultimate universe Fury. Hmm - fair enough, I can live with that, especially if they're getting Sam Jackson in the role. And is this an Avengers movie we're hinting at here?
I've heard Iron Man makes an appearance in the new Hulk film. Here's MY theory - it'll be the same deal as this one; last closing seconds of the film, Bruce meets Stark who asks him the same question; "what have you heard of the Avengers initiative?"
Bring it on!

Oh, and excellent news - Iron Man has exceeded ALL expectations at the Box Office, breaking past the $100 million dollar mark in three days.
I imagine there'll be a sequel, then.

I saw it a couple nights ago and it rocked a thorough amount of rockitude. Fantastic from beginning to end. Perfect casting and acting (Downey owns this show), smart writing, wonderful development of the plot and characters, and crisp pacing that keeps the entire picture from ever resorting to a moment of tedium. The special effects and action sequences were wonderful, but major props must be given to the music and sound design, which couldn't have possibly been done better.
Best Marvel movie ever? I'd say it's a very tough call between this and the first two X-Men films. One thing's for sure, though: As much as I loved the Spider-Man films (though not so much the third one), I don't think any of them were nearly as good as Iron Man turned out to be.

I reviewed it on Amazon here: www.amazon.com/review/R36DLFSA4QSXW/ref=cm_aya_cmt?%5Fencoding=UTF8&ASIN=B00005JPS7#wasThisHelpfulInterestingly, the votes indicate a negative response to my gushing review though there seems to be nothing but love for the film itself. I briefly forgot about the Nick Fury thing having enjoyed the movie soooo much and been so pleased with the ending that I left early like a douche. I've since seen it on Youtube, but I would have swooned if I'd seen it on the big screen. The times I've waited through the credits and not been treated to an extra scene I left kinda pissed and I love leaving the theater buzzed from a great film so I made a mistake and left "Iron Man" early. Sue me.

Man, that is shit luck Trashy. Still, at least you've now saw it. Thank Christ my wife was with me, because I must have looked like THE biggest nerd on the planet after seeing it.
Anyway, the official release date for Iron Man 2 has already been set (maybe due to the fact that Iron Man has taken in over $200 million worldwide) at 30th April 2010 (set your watches!) what do you think of the news that the main villain will be The Mandarin?
Now, I can understand why. One, it'll be a nice step away from all the clanking metal monsters, which could perhaps have gotten a little samey. But I don't know how they're going to be able to bring Mandarin to the screen and do the comics justice.
For one, he has MAGIC rings. Now, the first film was pretty much set in a "could, kinda, maybe happen" world, with terrorists and real worldwide troubles and all that, as well as a shameless plug for Burger King. How can THAT world suddenly have the Mandarin and his ten magic rings in it? Not to mention his pet DRAGON, with the worst comic book name in history (that'll be Fing Fang Foom, then).
Now, are we to ignore these comic book ideas and risk alienating the fans? Or are we to include them and risk turning Iron Man 2 into something just a little bit silly? I just don't know how you can have these sorts of things in a film without totally changing the tone.

I had heard the Mandarin was going to be in the first one early on. There reportedly were casting calls for asian men, but they probably thought the same thing you did. I'm guessing they're going to make him a tech villain with a magical/oriental aesthetic. That could work if handled right. Expect a FFF related quip, but no actual dragon. Like Mandarin unleashes automated terakata warriors on Shellhead who then says "I was expecting a talking dragon or something". Something lame like that that we'll eat up anyways.

Take this with a pinch of salt, but apparantly THIS.. Is Captain America's shield in the background. To me it looks like a blue thing that people just WANT to be a shield, but hey.

I refuse to vote because it doesn't have a "Good film, good cast, good God, RDJ could blow up my cave any time!" option.
Seriously, took my boys to see it and was expecting it to be a long afternoon, but it went by in a flash. Loved it.

Are they using Black Sabbaths Iron Man for the title tune? It plays in the end credits. Trust me though, the music in this film could not be more appropriate. Every theme and every song in every scene fits in absolutely perfectly. Very impressive sound design too; I wouldn't be surprised to see it get an Oscar nomination on that front.

Put it this way, by the end of the film I think I would have. Oh, and don't worry about Paltrow - she's not bad at all in it actually.

Fun fact: RATM's Tom Morello played the gits for the score and has a cameo (as a terrorist, no less!) near the beginning. And any film with a Suicidal tune prominently displayed gets my vote. The ending (1st one) could not be cooler. I'll just say it would have been criminal NOT to play Sabbath at that point. And I see you convinced Miss Succubus to change her moniker after all, Curmudgeon. You and your damn nicknames! Welcome Patsypending. Two lovely ladies in one week; the big C hath unleashed his charms upon the web it seems.

Oh, and don't worry about Paltrow - she's not bad at all in it actually. I actually never even realized that was Gwyneth Paltrow when I saw this. I didn't know that was her until reading some internet buzz afterwards. I don't know why, I just did not recognize her at all for the entire duration of the film, which is odd because it's not like she was wearing a mask or anything. For the record though, I was really fucking blazed the first time I saw this. Suicidal Tendencies never sounded so banging.

If anything, Gwinnie underplayed it very well. She doesn't really look like the comicbook character, which didn't matter to me in the slightest because until 30 seconds ago I didn't know what she looked like.
