There's a vile, money grabbing, fan-fleecing trend around with albums right now, where a CD is released and then, six months later it gets re-released as a double CD or a Special Edition CD with extra tracks to entice bandwagon jumpers or Johnny-Come-Lately's to buy the album, all the while flipping the finger to the fans who bought the CD the first time around. It's happening all the time, and the message is basically; "screw fan loyalty." Not a good thing at all.
That's not what this thread is about. I'm all for re-releasing things to a new audience and a new market if it is warranted. So they want to re-release a Clockwork Orange as a 2 disc special edition compared to the vanilla disc original version? Sounds like a plan to me.
It's a similar deal with music. I don't want the same album released twice in one year, but I have no problems with 2 disc remastered reissues of old albums.
For one - original CD pressings sound SHIT compared to new CDs, especially when you're listening to your i-Pod. I don't usually buy Best Of's, but I bought the 40 Licks Rolling Stones Best Of because the sound was far superior to the old albums. And if an old album gets re-released with bonus tracks and better sound, what's not to love?
So what album would YOU kill for a shiny new version of? For me, it would have to be pretty much the entire back catalogue of Prince. I often dream of a new collection of re-released Prince albums, every one a 2 disc set - the first disc being the digitally remastered original album and the 2nd disc being either b-sides from the released singles or un-released tracks from those studio sessions. Man, I'm getting myself all hot and bothered thinking about it now.
So - better sound and extra tracks - what album would YOU like to buy again?
