That title sounds better if you have a Bart Simpson voice in your head. Anyway, this may be old news to some, but I had never heard of it before. It's quite simply the stuff of frenzied wet dreams - an ultimate Godzilla box set. Which contains 30 mother fucking discs. So that's basically every Godzilla film ever made and three bonus discs, complete with awesome vinyl Godzilla head. I know I'll never have it. But dear God almighty I would love it in my life.

Done a bit more research on this, now that my heart rate is back to normal.
Knew there had to be a catch.
$900 to you - and NO english subtitles.
The price I could accept. The lack of subs? Forget it.

I have it, actually. It's called "Godzilla Final Box" and it was produced in limited quantities back in early 2005. Toho took pre-orders for the set throughout the last half of 2004 and the number of pre-orders they received was the number of those sets that they manufactured. It includes all of Toho's previously released Japanese region 2 DVDs of every Godzilla movie from Godzilla (1954) through Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003), as well as an empty case for Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) since this set was produced before that film hit DVD in Japan. Only the three bonus discs were specially produced for this set. They include the American version of Godzilla (1954) titled "Godzilla, King of the Monsters", Toho's three Symphonic Fantasia features from the '80s (basically comprised of SFX footage from the '50s-'60s films set to stock Akira Ifukube music), and a few other features and what not. The best part about the set is that cool-looking vinyl head, sculpted by the team that did the monster suits for GMK (2001), as well as supplementary book featuring almost every Japanese theatrical poster for every film in the Godzilla series on glossy, full-color pages. The set is nice but I do somewhat regret purchasing it now. The lack of English subtitles wasn't much of an issue for me because the discs can be watched on a computer with a program called DVD Subber and downloaded subtitle files from www.tokyomonsters.com, but I really much prefer watching DVDs on a TV these days - not to mention that my current laptop with Windows Vista doesn't play DVD Subber properly. The main thing is that, in the years since that "Godzilla Final Box" was produced, most of the Godzilla movies have had good-quality, English subtitled DVD releases on North American DVD, and most of the ones that haven't (like Godzilla vs. Megalon) now have good-quality, English-subtitled DVD releases in Australia. Most of these Japanese Godzilla DVDs really aren't worth owning now unless you REALLY want all of the special features they boast - which isn't as much as you might think, and of course none of them are subtitled. The "Godzilla Final Box" cost me $900 from a third-party retailer, plus a ridiculous $150 in shipping (the thing came in a box the size of a small fridge all the way from Japan). I was 16 and stupid at the time, and definitely too frivolous in spending the money I was making from my job working at a grocery store which I'm still working now. Maybe I'll sell my set.

But the bragging rights, Haines. Think of the bragging rights. Jeez, you'd think they could have held off on the release until after GFW came out. I mean, it says "Final" right in the name of the set. The most I will ever spend on a single DVD set was the $250+ for all of the seasons of Buffy. About a month later they announced this bad boy with extra bonus dics for under $200: Never fucking fails. Worse part? I fell for it again with "Angel". NEVER AGAIN! At least until all of BSG is on DVD. Then I'll either be kicking myself over waiting for a superdeluxe boxed set that will never come out or kicking myself when it does immediately after I buy the entire series.

That's the reason I haven't bothered buying any of the CSI (and its spinoffs) season DVD sets. You know they'll be getting some "complete collection" releases with exclusive content and what not, and I'm fine with waiting until then. I will be waiting a while though since those shows are still going strong with new episodes.

Yeah, that's a real pisser when they do that, but can't you just sell the sets on ebay and then use the money to buy the big boxset?
As for that awesome Godzilla set - it's pretty baffling to make the boxset when they knew the new one was just around the corner (would it have killed them to wait a month or two to include it officially, instead of just "leaving a space" for it? And I think the selling point for me is that fucking amazing big head. Screw the Alien DVD head thing - that Big G head is a thing of beauty. Why can't they sell THAT on its own?

All of the Buffy and Angel sets underwent a big price cut so they're all pretty cheap now. I'd be lucky to get enough for either boxed set if I sold all of the seasons for both shows separately. I dislike using Ebay to begin with. I always seem to have issues with shipments not arriving.
