We all know that moment, when someone from music or movies or sports or whatever - someone that you respect, admire and, lets face it, care about, does or says something fairly out of character that disappoints you as a fan.
Being a Prince fan can be hard work sometimes. I love the guy to bits but, god damn he can be an asshole sometimes. His whole hatred of the internet goes against pretty much everything he used to talk about in the late 90's ("free the music!"), and it's turning devoted fans, people who will buy anything and everything he releases, against him. It's insulting and pointless trying to remove websites and images of yourself.
When I heard that Prince was to appear on American Idol I was gutted. My hero and idol teaming up with the worst influence on pop music ever? I was prepared to eat a LOT of humble pie that day, thinking of seeing Prince mentor glossy eyed, fame hungry karaoke morons and standing next to Simon Cowell for photoshoots. So, while his eccentric ways can be frustrating, this time it paid off, when Prince refused to talk to any of the contestants and only played songs off his new album and then left, enraging Cowell and scoring a number one album in the process. All was forgiven when I heard about that.
But what about you? When have your heroes let you down?

Where to begin:
Ozzy on reality television ruined him for me. Seeing him in a dentist chair pathetically begging for more nitrous oxide while the dentist laughed (and obliged) with zany music playing enraged me to no end. HE WAS THERE FOR A CLEANING! The man is a drug addict, for God's sake and they were making a joke of his sad condition. I never turned MTV on again.
Here's the undisputed king of shock rock (eat it, Manson) at his lowest.
Holy fuck.

Ugh. What is that from? The Muppets? It looks like a Muppet - just one I've never seen before.

Yeah, it's the Muppet Show. There's like a half hour or so of awful with Alice from that show on Youtube. He tries to convince Kermit to sell him his soul..... [crickets chirp] The laugh track is gag-inducing.
Another moment where I seriously considered atheism was Tarantino on American Idol. Only the lamest, most boring clip went onto The Tube (see below) but his entrance made me sick to my stomach. Just corny as all hell. QT is lucky nobody put the rest of it up.
And Jello Biafra breaking up The Dead Kennedys by stealing from his bandmates is a huge one. This may be music business as usual, but for a punk singer whose primary purpose is calling out the rich and corrupt, ridiculing the greedy, and espousing the virtues of punk minimalism, nothing could be more hypocritical. It's probably the reason I haven't bought any of his solo work. Few people have been as influential in my life and I felt utterly betrayed.

Jesus..... what the FUCK was Tarantino thinking? "I felt like there was glass between you and me." UGH. I had no idea he had been a guest judge on that show. Can Cowell buy anyone now? How disgusting.

What?! You didn't like Cooper on The Muppet Show, Trashy?
Ok, so maybe I just have fond memories of seeing the episode when I was younger and searching my dad's CD collection for Billion Dollar Babies afterwards, but I still think it's cool.
I'll post my worst let down when I have the time to find a video.

Cooper's allure is his dark persona and hardcore horror cred as well as his killer tunes. I know he's really a light-hearted dude in real life and all, but that duet with the bird thing is just embarrassing. This is a guy who sings first-person songs about necrophilia and child murderers. But anything that gets kids into the music can't be all bad, I suppose.

I know celebs kinda fall over themselves to be on the Muppets show. It's sort of an American institution. I mean, check this out.. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0Os4Qs2GAq4But I just didn't like the Alice Cooper sketch. Maybe it's because that Muppet he's singing with looks cheap as all hell. Alice should have sang with Count Von Count - now THAT could have been something special.

Moments when my idols let me down:
1. Alice in Chains decided to record a new album... without Layne. 2. Sebastian Bach asked Axl Rose to sing on his first album in nearly a decade. 3. Sebastian Bach did backing vocals on a song on Chinese Democracy. 4. Sebastian Bach recorded a country song. (are you noticing a pattern?) 5. Dave Mustaine invited (Blow)Job For a Cowboy to play on Gigantour. Seriously, Dave?

Mustaine lets his fans down with every step he takes. Great musician, moronic human being. Baz is OUT OF HIS FUCKING MIND. Always has been. And there is no AIC without Staley. End of story.
