I've just been schooled. Goddamn do I want to see Vampire Circus now. I can't watch movies on my computer. I guess I'm a snob that way. And it's more than I can spare for a film I've never seen on the UK site. I hate it when this stuff goes out of print. So we play the waiting game. "Vampyres" is awesome. That's aka "Daughters of Darkness" right? It is cheap as hell on your side...and now it's in my basket along with Twins of Evil. Man, there are some great deals there. Thanks for the recs, Paul. Your vampire knowledge has humbled me on this day.

Hey Trashie, you can get 'VC' on the US site, on a BRILLIANT double-header with 'Hands of the Ripper' for about $2o. You're deep in the bowels of my particular fortress here; www.amazon.com/review/R152OAC3UAQY2F/ref=cm_cr_pr_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B000R3VL6W&nodeID=#wasThisHelpful'Hands of the Ripper' despite it's title, is a superb, bloody psycho-thriller. Make sure the 'Vampyres' is the right one. I think it's under-titled 'Daughters of Dracula' in the US. For once, the UK edition is a joy; Uncut, great transfer, a commentary from the director Josef Larraz who 'fucks' 'bastards' and 'shits' in a brill Spanish accent and the dvd box art is outstanding if a little misleading. There is a fine early 70's Euro-horror picture called 'Daughters of Darkness' A kinky French/Belgian co-production with Delphine Seyrig and the incredibly sexy Andrea Rau (fortunately naked a LOT!)and directed by Harry Kumel. If I'm being honest, it's a better film than 'Vampire Circus' and 'Vampyres' combined.

Can't find anything but overpriced individual imports for Circus and Hands, and no doubleheader. Mayhap I'll check Ebay later. I'm buying the UK edition you reviewed as soon as I can clear it with the missus (my bumbling-but-beautiful treasurer). American releases have traditionally butchered foreign genre films and changed the title multiple times to boot. So when Bruce Lee fans talk they have to specify that when they say "Fist of Fury" they are actually referring to the American-titled "Chinese Connection" and not "The Big Boss" which was retitled "Fists of Fury" in America. How fucking stupid is that? The "Vampyres" I'm thinking of features the line "Don't lie to yourself, it gave you pleasure. You enjoyed seeing that dead girl's body." Right? Christ, not only did they change the name of "Vampyres", but they changed it to the title of an existing film? retarded. Wow, DOD has a two-disc special edition here in America. Only reason I haven't seen it is I thought I already had. Vampire Nirvana, here I come. You made my day again, Paul.

It's a bit suss this T. There's a seller called Allmedia offering the double bill which IS a R2 import for $18.88 plus $2.98 shipping. I don't understand why it's not registering with you. It'd be a pity to miss that one - it's one of the best two-fers I've seen. I don't know about any extras - all Hammer releases are annoyingly frugal on that score. 'DoD' is set in a seaside hotel in wintertime - bit like the Overlook with wind and sand - and has two delicious bi-sexual vamps and a honeymoon couple as the only guests. Loads of nudity and kinkiness. Typical Euro arty but with snap and gloss. You're right about te 2-disc SE, so you're probably ok. My 'HotR' came in a box-set with a wretch called 'the Uncanny' and the wonderful Joan Collins stinker 'I Don't Want to Be Born' with Ralph Bates, Donald Pleasence and a strip-show dwarf! Honest! www.amazon.com/review/RU75HSHZSNP1X/ref=cm_aya_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B000XPU5FW#wasThisHelpful

I've yet to fathom WHY movies get different credits in different countries. What exactly is the point of it all? Do British audiences react differently to certain WORDS than Americans?
Anyway, dunno if you've heard of/seen the cult UK TV mini-series "Ultraviolet", Trashy. It was made in 1998 and is a sort of modern version of the vampire story, except the word "vampire" is never used. It's a secret goverment team tracking down "Code 5's" and is pretty damn excellent.
Here's the trailer..
Even for non-vamp fans it's well worth checking out.
Oh, and back on the Hammer Horror theme - has anyone seen the movie where a queen has to drink the blood of virgins to stay young? I can't remember the name but that film always stuck in my head. Ring any bells?

"Countess Dracula", loosely based on the much gorier true story of Elizabeth Bathory. I own it on a double-bill with "The Vampire Lovers". Good, but the title is also dumb and it pales in comparison to TVL. I saw Ultraviolet years ago and remember enjoying it, though I don't remember much.
I don't know how I missed that two-fer the first time, Paul, but thanks. I see it there now. Unfortunately, all of our money this week is going to eating out because the kitchen is being redone (goodbye, tax refund). Next paycheck that DVD shall be mine. Then on to Twins and Vampyres. This has been the most productive topic for me I've ever been a part of. British horror fans are the best. Thanks, guys.
