It's always obvious when pesky "real" life gets in the way of the Fortress and I can't talk about things that come up in the press that I would automatically talk about any other time.
So - THAT new Miley Cyrus photo. And for anyone who hasn't heard about it (it even made big waves over here, where she's not the world-eating megastar she is over on your side of the pond), sadly it's not more pictures of her in her underwear. Damn.
Anyway, it is, of course, this picture..
And this is what the Organization of Chinese Americans had to say about it;
"This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent. Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans."
And, of course, this being the world we live in today, she's getting sued by some lawyer to the sum of, cue Doctor Evil voice, four BILLION dollars.
Seriously - Four. Billion. Dollars.
Amongst all this talk of racism and money, surely someone, somewhere, needs to point out that, rich and famous or not, she's a fucking 16 year old girl. Should she know better? Yeah, maybe, but that's being a teenager is all about, surely? And there's obviously no hatred or malice in the photo; they're obviously friends to begin with.
So what does everyone else think? Whatever your opinion of her (and I can't imagine there's many fans here), isn't this just a vast, hysterical over-reaction, not only by a hand-wringing overtly PC media but by some bandwagon jumping ambulance chaser? Would a lawsuit of such a preposterous sum, for a supposedly private photo of a teenage girl and her friends, even be taken seriously in court?
(And besides, hasn't anyone mentioned the fact they all look drunk/stoned/coked out of their eyeballs? Isn't that more of a story?)
