I'm fully aware that the majority of Loyal Dwellers (the vast, vast number of you) are American. Awesome - no problem with that. But it does mean that we are often on totally different wave lengths when it comes to talking about music, unlike, say, myself and Calum - both from the UK and on the same page; he hates everything I like and pretty much vice versa. You know - whatever works.
Anyway, I'm just going to drop some names of a variety of British bands, and you have to tell me a) how popular you imagine they are and b) if you've heard of them, what you think of them.
I'm quite curious to see if the bands who make such a splash over here can even cause a ripple on a much bigger pond. Let us begin..
Muse
Ash
Babyshambles
Bloc Party
Artic Monkeys
Razorlight
Gorillaz
Happy Mondays
I should point out, I don't really care for some of these bands, but I'm just curious to see if they're well known in America or not.

I'd say Gorillaz WERE the most popular band on that list, but they really only had one or two singles a few years back that got major radio time, and after that everybody forgot about them. If I asked 10 people "Hey, remember the Gorillaz?" I'd bet at least 9 would say "No."
Muse is fairly popular, but by "popular" I mean I know (maybe) a handful of guys who listen to them every now and then, and one or two who are "#1 FANZ!"
I'm not familiar with any of the others except Artic Monkeys and Bloc Party, but I really only know them by name. I'd venture a guess that no one I know has heard of any of the rest of the bands on that list either, but I really couldn't say for sure.

I remember reading an issue of Ultimate Spider-Man and one of the kids had a "Gorillaz" t-shirt and I couldn't quite believe it. Still, anime cartoon characters are easier to market than real bands, I suppose.
Man, it really is an eye opener. Razorlight, awful as they are, fill stadiums over here, and the lead singer is some Kirsten Dunst dating super-diva.
Oh, one I forgot to add to the list - Amy Winehouse. Never out of the tabloid press over here - is she known over in the US of A?

Amy Winehouse is massive right now and Gorillaz are pretty much a perennial hipster favorite. Winehouse's antics in particular are what has made her a star, though the last issue of the new "Buffy" comic references her as one of Faith's favorite singers. That's pretty cool. She's on my iPod and is a good artist for a shuffle mix, but her female Jim Morrison wannabe act gets old quick when I listen to the whole album at once. Good stuff, but one-dimensional, you know? Plus, check this out: openfansite.com/blogger/live-shows/amy-winehouse-concert-was-atrocious/ Ugh. Talk about trading in common sense for talent, huh? I've heard of a few of the other bands listed, but couldn't tell you a thing about them.

I just don't think she can handle the fame.
She really signed her own death warrant (er, if you know what I mean) by releasing a song called Rehab, mocking the spoilt rich kids who can't handle the pressure. And once that song blew up and she became a household name - guess where she ended up?
That last clip you posted Trashy is really pretty shocking. It's now a case of "how low can you go?"
