Annoyingly, I have no idea whether this band are big or known in the States, but over here their stuff isn't even available yet.
Anyway, there surely isn't an odder combination of artists put together to form a band than Tinted Windows, AKA James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne), Bun E Carlos (Cheap Trick) and, um, Taylor Hanson (take a guess).
Naturally, being big fans of the Pumpkins (and adoring James' solo album) and, hey I'll admit it, Hanson, I was pretty stoked to see this group before I'd even heard them. And you know what? As "power pop" (whatever the hell that is) goes, this is pretty damn good.
Check out the non-more 80s video before Youtube pull the video (from the UK, at least)
Oh yeah, I'm totally buying this!

Depending on your definition of odd. How about Faith No More singer Mike Patton, Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn, Melvins guitarist Buzz Osbourne, and Dave Lombardo of Slayer on the drums? What if they were playing an entire album with no lyrics that is meant to be a sonic representation of a comic book? Or how about redoing classic film scores?
Observe "The Godfather" as scored by Fantomas:

.............................. OK, you win. That was odder. It also sounds pretty damn fantastic. I looked them up on Wikipedia and I like what I hear so far, especially when you consider that they've taken their name from this guy The world's most bored super villain. Amazing. You know, I can quite honestly say I'd never find this sort of stuff out on any other website I go on. Nice work, Trashy. Now you've got me hunting the net for fucking silent French movies from 1913. I may well hunt around for some Fantomas music too.

If you can dig Fantomas, you can dig anything. They are the ultimate litmus test for open-minded music fans. A lot of people wouldn't even call their stuff music because it's so off-the-wall, noisy, and WIERD. But those are a few of my favorite things.
