Britain goes insane. Here's a quick couple of questions for you; when is a racist not a racist? When is a vile, hateful, hate-filled, willfully ignorant person in fact a caring, kind, brave inspiration to the nation? Answer to both; when that person has cancer. At least, that's been the story in the UK with televisions biggest ever mistake, Jade Goody. Quick explanation for those lucky enough not to have heard of her - Jade was a contestant on the worst show on television, AKA Big Brother, and became famous for being stupid. Yes, the fact that she was below even average intelligence and talked like a drunken ten year old was, in fact, hilarious and really endearing to the celebrity magazine reading dead-insides. So she became a big reality star, with TV shows following her around so the drooling retards who watch this sort of thing could find out more about the "real" Jade. It was a few years later, however, on Celebrity Big Brother (she was now a celebrity, you see), where the "real" Jade would really shine. Because it was this program that made headline, worldwide news (well, in the UK and India, at least) when Goody was at the front of a "race row" involving Indian actress Shilpa Shetty that saw Jade branded evil, vulgar, loathsome - pretty much everything she was. Her career was ruined, her perfume (yes, she actually had her own perfume - can you imagine the bottom feeding scum who bought that?) was removed from the shelves.. she was, in short, the most hated women in Britain. All's right with the world, then. Super. Fast forward a few months though, and it turns out Jade has cancer. And then cue the biggest media about-turn since they tried to brainwash us into loving Princess Di. Suddenly the same tabloids foaming at the mouth for Jade's blood were now calling her a "princess" (hence my earlier comparison), a brave, proud mother who did the best for her kids etc etc etc. And, I'm sorry, we're all supposed to buy into this? And yet, the easily manipulated eat/breed/obey masses DID buy into it, and the whole affair, from the non-stop media coverage, the television documentaries, were so crass, so cheap.. it verged on parody. How about selling a commemorative issue of a magazine dedicated to the memory of Jade - when she was still alive? How about the big romantic wedding of Jade and her boyfriend Jack? You know, Jack - the guy who was seen with strippers and other women weeks before the cancer news? Jack, who had to be let out of prison (for threatening to slit a taxi drivers throat) to go to his wedding? How about a news reporter on the BBC - at the funeral - saying "yes, well, the crowds are starting to gather and things are starting to pick up here" like he was attending Glastonbury. Sniff. It's all like a Jane Austin novel, isn't it? Only this time with fame-hungry cretins, criminals and feral, drug addicted mothers. That any women, of any background, dies of cancer is, of course, a tragedy for her and her family. What is simply unbelievable about the whole sorry saga was the two-faced nature of not only the press, but the idiots who hoover up every opinion and treat it as cold hard fact. To them, a year ago, Jade was a vile, monstrous bully, even if they didn't watch the show to find out for themselves, the media told them as much and they swallowed every word. And the same thing happened again to these people who simply cannot think for themselves and live in slack-jawed blissful ignorance of the world outside a screaming headline tabloid. Jade Goody is not a person to be celebrated, and indeed represents the very worst aspects of not only our modern culture but our obsession with meaningless celebrities, people with no talent other than dropping their knickers for footballers and selling the story or, like Jade, being a "character" from a reality show. It's a dire state of affairs and tawdry, tacky books like this rush-released, ghoulish drivel only make things worse.

How spiteful to attack a dead woman's character when she cant defend herself. Not one sentence in your dreadfully long comment pertained to the content of the book. I don't believe Jade is racist at all. Have you read her book Jade Catch a Falling Star? If so, you would see that she truly isn't a racist person! She is a kind and caring person who was devoted to her family! You would also know that after the incident she apoligized to Shelpa and they both hugged and forgave eachother. However, that was not shown on the show. Im 100% positive that was done for ratings! Im sure a lot of people tuned into the show after that!
If she was a racist person she wouldn't have cared about the media backlash or cared one bit what people thought of her afterwards. A racist person doesn't get depression from making racist comments if they truly are racist! She went out of her way to let people know her side of the story and even went on India's version of Big Brother that was hosted by Shilpa. If Shilpa thought she was racist and had ill thoughts of her, do you think Shilpa would've let the producers bring Jade on the show. I think not!!!!!
Perhaps Jade wasn't the most well liked person before or after the infamous fight but her death certainly sparked and increased awareness in cervical cancer. If anything good had come out of her being a reality show celebrity, it was the UK's increased awareness of the horrible disease. Thousands of women are more viligent about getting yearly check ups after watching Jade Goody's very public battle with cancer. She probably helped save numerous lives from her plight.
Perhaps what I find most interesting about her life was the way she was so carefree. Who doesn't like a story of a person going from rags to ritches? She overcame many obstacles even though the odds were stacked up against her. She could've very well ended up a druggie like her mother and father or wound up on the street as a homeless woman. However, she beat the odds of growing up in a broken drug infested home! She was the mother to her mother and she did her best to raise her two sons. Her two sons are very well taken care of now because of her and unfortunatly have to live the rest of their lives without their mother.
Yes, her books may have been rushed released but you are only focusing on the negative. A lot of young women who have cancer could buy her book and know that they are not alone in their struggles. Nothing more helps a person who is fighting cancer than another person who has beat the odds or who battled cancer themselves. All the profits from her book Remember Me This Way are going to a charity to help others who have cancer. She could have very well decided to give the profits to her family but she didn't and that speaks a lot of her.
For those of you who are reading this, I hope one persons negativity doesn't influence your opinion. Read her books and decide for youself. I plan on buying this one myself. E enjoyed reading her book Jade Catch a Falling Star and Im sure this one is worth the read as well.

"A racist person doesn't get depression from making racist comments if they truly are racist!"
So I guess if someone were to intentionally commit homicide they wouldn't be considered a true murderer as long as they felt bad about it afterwards?

hear hear! at last a decent and frank appraisal of this sh*te. Nice to see that jade's mum has gotten over her grief and is now spilling her guts appearing on jeremy kyle and the like to top up the coffers and keep the kids in shell suits and kerry katona biographies.

Thankyou! During the media hype i beleive Michael Parkinson was the one to have said Goody was all that is wretched about Britain today. and i was thinking to myself thank god!! Someone has the sense to put this straight. The comparison between jade and princess di is possibly the most stupid thing ive ever heard. if the role models for britian include the late jade goody, an uneducated, racist loudmouth, finding fame (numerous times) on possibly the most disgraceful show on british tv where you leave your dignity at the door well god help us all... if people want to help cancer sufferers donate to a charity, raise money for cancer research, something other than this. There are so many good willed people that are snatched from their youth because of cancer, help those with a chance, dont buy into this celebrity drivel.

So you climb down from your lofty cultural perch to go rooting round in the gutter and are outraged with what you find there. In doing so, of course, you reveal yourself to be as judgmental ('bottom-feeding scum', 'fame-hungry cretins' etc) as the woman you despise so much. Reacting in the way you do to the publication of this book, do you not also demonstrate that your own fascination with 'meaningless celebrities' is every bit as obsessive as the people you deride in your review? Which makes you just as big a victim of 'media manipulation' as the rest of us, doesn't it?

Great review, Curmudgeon. I can't say I know much about Jane Goody, but I agree 100% about how the media is so full of s*** when it comes to media icons. One moment they're spitting on them but once they die or get a terminal medical condition, they put them on pedestals.

Jade was ' evil, vulgar, loathsome' and 'vile, hateful, hate-filled' for making a politically incorrect remark and deserved to suffer and die, what a sick and loathsome human being you are! A typical self-righteous hard hearted judgmental left wing radical, from a privileged background, you are , Curmudgeon. I hope you suffer as Jade Goody did!
