In another "let's get to know each other better" threads, I thought I'd find any potential gamblers out there. Something I, most definitely, am not.
However, having just watched a guy I know lose £250 over ONE game of football (and an ex-manager of mine once got drunk and blew £1000 on a horse - and forgot all about it until his credit card bill came in), I know the gambling bug can effect pretty much everyone.
I've just never liked the idea of losing money - any money. I don't even play the lottery (it may have had something to do with the fact I used to work in a place that sold lottery tickets, and a bigger line of mouth breathing cretins you've never seen anywhere else. Want to know what the end of the world looks like? Stand in line for lottery tickets one day).
I don't buy scratchcards, I don't bet on sports, I don't play the lottery.. I just don't have that "I could win MORE" mentality. The Grand National, for instance, is a big deal to the majority of the UK, when everyone "has a flutter" on a horse - everyone, of course, except me. And going to casino's is now a regular past-time for a lot of people I know - and I couldn't think of a more boring place. Back when I used to go into arcades, I would walk past the rows of slot machines (UNLIKE Mrs C, who I pretty much have to drag away with a gun to her head), and head straight for the actual games.
It's like when Mr Burns is offered eternal happiness for a dollar. "Hmmmm.. I'd be happier with the dollar." So true.
So what about the rest of you? Any hardened gamblers among you?
