Regular Dwellers may remember a discussion from a few months ago where I revealed I'd been having major sleeping problems for about 8 months, as well as odd "arggh, I can't breathe" dreams where I actually AM choking in my sleep.
Well, that's been a year now and it's still the same situation. I've now been on some form of sleeping pill for about a year (I'm now on some kind of anti-depressant - don't worry, it's just to sleep). I'd even starting smoking weed at night (something I'd never really done until now.. aren't you supposed to start that shit when you're about 15?) 'cos it knocked me out cold.
Now, obviously, pills and dope aren't ideal long term solutions. So I was sent to a "Sleep Clinic" by my doctor, and a more depressing place I've yet to see. For starters, the waiting room has posters for every suicide hotline under the sun ("Depressed? Stressed? Suicidal? You're not alone!") and then I had to sit with these two doctors for about an hour, asking me 1000 questions, like where I grew up, how long I've been married, was I ever bullied at school, do I get on with my parents.. etc etc etc. Anyway, they basically shrugged their shoulders at me and recommended I go to some Insomnia Discussion Group. Yeah, that'd be helpful. "Can't sleep? Nah, me either." Fuck that.
So the latest in this sorry saga is - at the recommendation by my mother - I'm going to get hypnotised. Yep, some woman with a, I'm sure, golden pocket watch, is coming to my house on Friday. What's going to happen I have ZERO idea. She said she'll have to see if the whole shebang will work with me or not, and starting going on about different conscious states and stuff. Although, if she starts with "you are feeling very sleepy" I may have to punch her out.
So has anyone here had any dealings or have any knowledge about hypnosis? To be honest the idea kinda freaks me out a little, and I'm pretty glad Mrs C won't be there when its happening (dunno why, but.. you know, I have NO idea what I may say).
So I thought I would turn to my learned friends in here - hypnosis; any words of wisdom?
