Fresh from talking about the revolutionary Radiohead marketing tactic, how about this one, from a band I'm really getting into right now (but no-one in the UK has heard of), The New Pornographers.
Basically, they have a standard version of thier new album. But they also have a deluxe version, but instead of the usual bonus disc, they've released only a deluxe looking box with three BLANK discs inside. In the box is a special I.D number which you use on the net to download and burn exlusive tracks onto those discs. I was a bit disappointed to see that the majority of the songs are B-Sides (because surely if you're going to go to that effort, you'd be a big enough fan to have already bought the singles in the first place?) but it certainly is novel.
Two questions; has anyone else heard of this band?

Would you buy into this idea for a band you liked?
