Let me set the scene for you.
I have the day to myself, and I have three, that's right, THREE hours of wrestling to catch up on. So, I set myself down, pour myself a long glass of Pepsi Max, look at the rain pounding off the window beside the TV, and relax.
I hear todays post fall onto the floor through the letterbox in the hall. The usual soft flap of bills and junk mail. No big deal. Then a hearty "THUNK" noise - a parcel. Odd, I wasn't expecting anything, nor was Mrs C. Hmmm.
And yes, there is a small, sturdy white package on the floor next to the front door, face down. There's something scribbled on the envelope, Merry Christmas... in July! OK, now I'm REALLY confused. I turn the parcel over and at the bottom of the package is a quote from Edgar Allen Poe's the Raven (I'd just love to know what my postman thinks of me), and I'm utterly baffled. And then I see the sender's name at the top of the packet. Ah-ha! He's done it again.
Yes indeed, your friend and mine, Invisible Wolfman has sent me yet another gift - this time in the deeply delicious shape of a 2 disc steelbook edition of The Crow. Bask in its gorgeousness
Really.. I.. I don't know what to say. Packages arriving is always fun, total out of the blue surprise packages are fantastic. And it makes it even more fantastic when you consider it wouldn't even have happened if it weren't for, you guessed it, this place.
I've went on and on about genuine internet communities before, but everytime something like this happens it just reinforces the idea for me. From touching, "aw shucks" gestures like this to things like Trashy reviewing the site on Lunch (five stars!) to HackersAnonymous tirelessly helping me out with any technical problems, it just shows what time and effort we've all contributed into making this place a success.
Wolfman - once again, thank you. I don't know what I did to deserve it, but, hey - you really did make my day.
OK, before this turns into some big group hug session, I think I'm going to go and watch my new DVD!
