Now, first of all, this isn't a comment on any one religion or faith. Be Christian, Muslim - whatever, I have no problem with that. Religion is a part of every culture, but damn - American Christian's really do cram it down your throat. Picture the scene; Disneyworld were hosting a "Christian Rock Concert" last week, and the set up was pretty damn good. Big stage, good PA system, decent sized outside "arena" - if a decent band were playing it would be a hell of a show. Now, I wasn't sure if it would get a decent turn out or not, (and I certainly wasn't going to stick around and find out), but the place was FILLED with Christian rock fans all day. And how could you TELL they were Christian rock fans? Because 99% of them wore t-shirts telling you as much. Never mind wearing a t-shirt of, ohh, I dunno, another rock band (or even a shirt of one of the bands that were playing), these guys, ranging from kids, teenagers to full grown adults, all wore things like this One fully grown man was wearing this Now, the phrase "only in America" gets used a lot (especially in the UK) but in this case I have to agree. I've never seen such fiercely displayed, ah, "faith," as I did that day. I can't even imagine the UK having anything like that. Damn, I wish I had been wearing a Cradle of Filth t-shirt that day..

That's the light stuff, man. Believe me. Christian rock is a weird scene. Fans will love you no matter what you play so long as you state you're a Christian band. Evanescence actually gained their popularity in the scene and then as soon as they scored a mainstream hit they completely ditched that scene and insisted they were always secular. I laughed my ass off. I saw a death metal band on a Christian channel I happened across one day that sounded like Cradle of Filth and looked like Dimmu Borgir. I was just flipping channels and this demonic band was on so I watched and then at the end it was part of some Christian rock countdown. That's what I call surreal.

Hmmm. But.. surely the whole point of "Christian" music is to move away from that sort of thing? Is there a new Faux Satanic-Christian scene I'm not aware of?
