That right there. That gets on my fucking nerves like you wouldn't believe. I've lost count the amount of times some dick-brained fuck monkey tries to poke fun at MY interests simply because they're too ignorant to have heard of them.
I remember someone asked me what band I was going to see. It was indie pop critical darlings Bis, seen here being in the Matrix two years before the Matrix. They should've sued.
She laughed and said, "WHO?" and I explained who they were, just some cult indie band playing a small venue. She then rolled her eyes and said, "you listen to some shit."
So because she'd never heard of a band that automatically makes them shit? Because they're not some chart conquering juggernaut playing enormo-domes the world over makes them shit?
And I've lost count at the amount of times I've come across this stupidity. That if something isn't on someone's no-reach radar, if something isn't plopped on their laps, then it isn't relevant?
I have no problem with people not knowing of some bands or whatever. A simple "oh, I don't them" would be fine. But why is it acceptable to openly admit ignorance?
Tell me I'm not the only one who gets this sort of bullshit?

You are not. One guy I talked to said that if nobody hears it, it can't be any good. I attempted to explain corporate payola and the ignorant masses only taking what is spoonfed to them by people who only see them as securityless banks to be robbed and he responded by saying that if nobody ever hears about a band they can't be any good. I then told him that nobody can have heard of a song before it is on the radio ahead of it's official release so how do they decide what gets on the radio if it's not a established act? He told me I didn't "get it" without offering a word of explanation about what "it" was. This is the world we live in. Get used to it.

Oh, yeah, I fucking HATE that point of view, that they must be shit if the mainstream hasn't heard of them. And yet, look at the bona-fide garbage that DOES sell millions.
We're really fighting a losing battle, aren't we?

We only lose when we give in and buy into their shit.
