He may just end up writing a song about it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv6mEv_rDdEBowie, while being my second favourite ever solo artist, has barely ever been mentioned here in the Fortress. So what's everyone's take on the Thin White Duke? I originally got into Bowie through "Little Wonder", his mid 90s drum and bass tune, and then just ended up buying everything he's ever done. The 70s classics are amazing, of course, but some of his later material (especially his post 2000 work) are great too. I love the fact that, even though he's one of the greatest musicians of all time, he's still grounded in reality, unlike some (coughPrincecough) and seems humble and a genuinely nice guy. And films like The Man Who Fell to Earth and Labyrinth are fantastic, too. Not sure about his Warhol impression in Basquiat, though.. But anyway, what's your take on Bowie?

That was BRILLIANT! ;D As for Bowie, LOVE his stuff. Here's a few of my favorites:
John, I'm Only Dancing
Something so hypnotic about that song, one of his best.
Heroes
Just wonderful, operatic without treading into Meat Loaf / Jim Steinman territory.
Under Pressure
Now THIS is how two giant forces in music should meet, in such a way they transcend themselves and blend in seamlessly.
Golden Years
So 50's and 60's but so timeless it still works today. And let's not forget that it gave us something from Stephen King:
Song between 0:00 and 0:50 but don't bother with the rest...can't find the opening on it's own.
Promo for Stephen King's GOLDEN YEARS
I could go on and on about Bowie, but that'd leave little room for others. So, how about the rest of you?

Anybody who doesn't like Bowie doesn't like music. I wish I had more time and money to delve into more his stuff. I've just got the greatest hits on my ipod.

I'd buy that quote for a dollar, Trashy. The hits albums are excellent places to start, of course, and there is a minefield of dud or average albums out there. If I had picked, say, one of his 80s albums (Tonight, for example) as the first Bowie record I'd ever listen to then there wouldn't be a thread about him here. If you are interested in getting to know more Bowie, the first album I bought of his was Hunky Dory, and it's... God, it's a fucking masterpiece. Changes is the big hit single from there, but the other songs, in my opinion, totally overshadow it. "Quicksand" is my favourite ever Bowie song, but Life on Mars, Kooks, Oh You Pretty Things.. they're all on there. What an album. Nice choices, Wolfy. John, I'm Only Dancing is a great song. Golden Years I'm not so keen on, but who can argue with Under Pressure? So good it got Vanilla Ice sued. While we're talking Bowie, a thread can't go without this.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4zV4pJ8MwMNot as good as the album version, but you can't argue with Brett's eye-patch.
